I has to be 50 cents a local call here (more for mobiles) I believe they even take credit/debit cards. It has to be 10+ years since I have used a public telephone

ah, ok it sounded like 3 pennies but who knows. yeah , last time I used one was over a decade ago is was about 50c iirc.
As for claim to age, I remember the switch to our first color television. Sunday morning cartoons , blew my mind! and it came with a remote too!
