yes i do, it makes sense, you can grab it securely while still in the pocket and just pull it out with the natural curling motion of your arm....the top side will naturaly find itself right side up.

If you put it in your pocket right side up, you have to try and tweeze it out with two fingers like a retard, and let it pivot on those two fingers, untill the palm of your hand touches the back of it. .... ending at the same position you would have ended with if you put it upside down in your pocket and just grabbed the thing like a real man in the first place.

Or even worst, you grab it as you would normally do but now once you curl your arm up it's now upside down, and you have to use your other arm to put it right side up,...like a retard.

also the phone jack at the bottom is a much better placement, while using the phone and if you also have the sensibility to put it in your pocket upside down. And any docking station in the car will end up having a nice clean top side, which is usually the side that ends up being more visible and noticeable than the bottom. This decision is a no brainer ... unless you're a moron.

The first thing they should do with the iPhone is cut off all that excess plastic at the top and bottom of the screen. It makes the device much larger than necessary. All that space could be screen space.

I'm guessing there's guts under that plastic which is necessary for the phone to function...

Perhaps, but my gf's HTC Desire S has similar dimensions yet it has a 3.7" screen instead of a 3.5" one like the iPhone has. My own HTC Sensation has a 4.3" screen but almost no surface area that isn't screen.

Also, the touch sensitive buttons below the screen act as an extension to the screen as well, so your downward swipe (to scroll a webpage for instance) continues when you swipe across the buttons.

I just never understood why they stuck to that rather inefficient form factor when they could've easily stuck a 3.7" screen in, for example, the 3GS already. And that retina display on the iPhone 4 is cute, but not worth a lot when you only have 3.5 inches of it.
