Please point out where I in any way defend (or even mention) the suspect in the linked article. I am not talking about that at all, I happen to think that killing someone in front of your four year-old is extremely fucked up.

The thing is that we are able to live the lives we live because of the laws and the justice system that are there to protect us. I very well realize that the justice system, especially in the States, is flawed to an extent, but if you stop believing in that then there's nothing left to stop you from doing whatever you decide would be right, as misguided as it may be at that point.

I think that in the long run, it would be far more satisfying to see a criminal convicted by a court of justice than to beat him to death in a fit of rage. Why? Because if a court of justice declares that he is guilty of the crimes he was charged of, then that judgment was made through the laws and values of our entire society as a whole rather than what just you, at that moment where rage blinded you, felt like. It would be a reconfirmation of that we still hold those values in high regard. And I'd be far happier living in a world where the laws and values of society condemn such an action in a well thought out and considered manner than on an eye-for-an-eye, shoot-first-ask-questions-later basis.

Also, if justice in your eyes is that you have the right to kill a man on the spot without giving him a fair trial, then your sense of justice is completely warped and totally out of sync with how our society works. That means you actually are a danger to society and are arguably just as bad as a rapist.

I think most of the people really against this probably don't have kids. If you don't, you can't possibly relate to the concept of something happening to them and the levels you're willing to go to to protect them. It's not comparable to any other protective instinct you'll ever experience. People calling this guy crazy is probably accurate, but that is what this level of love does. It makes you crazy, where you'd take a life or give your own in order to ensure the safety of your child. It's quite a stressful level of love to have for something.

People who have kids and still aren't able to relate to this guy are likely intrinsically weak individuals who would kill or die for their children, were they able to rid themselves of the selfishness that gives them enough pause to stop and think.

Basically, there's places in the world where you can get away with things, and places where you can't. Obviously, at this guys address, you can't get away with trying to rape his kids. Maybe at Shaft's place your odds of walking away with just a stern telling off are much higher.

Sorry, but in no way shape or form is killing a rapist as bad as raping a child. If you think so, you're demented and devoid of a moral compass. Should killing be the first option? No, not in a perfect world, or at least a closer approximation than ours. In an ideal world, rapists and pedophiles wouldn't exist. Sadly, they do. Equally sad is the fact that trials of scumbags like that can easily end up with the perpetrator being acquitted due to some sleazy legal chicanery.

I can only speak from personal opinion here, and from that I say that if I caught someone trying to, or in the act of, raping my kid I'd beat them to within an inch of their life, then call the cops. Note that I would take every effort to drag them out of sight of my kid first. If the dirtbag happened to die, so fucking what? One less piece of shit on the planet. He was in the wrong, not me. He was committing the crime, not me. If someone wants to do shit like that, they need to be aware of the consequences, which may very well be fatal.

I have a very high regard for the concepts of justice and due process of law, except when it comes to rapists and child molesters. For them it's up against the wall, two in the chest, one in the head. Why? Because you can't fix those fucks and the taxpayers shouldn't have to support them for the rest of their worthless lives.

As far as the pooh-poohing of my statements about how you'd feel if you had children, well, eat shit. If you don't have kids, you cannot possibly understand.
