Ive only had 1 nVidia card (most current) in the last few years, used buy their shit all the time but put the ATI driver myth to the test a while back and tbh the cards I had hardly skipped a beat, have had issues / seen stories about both camps though, just hope I get lucky again I guess

Currently running a 580GTX from EVGA, and it's the best card I've had in years. Not very noisy and runs everything I chuck at it. The last card I had that felt this professional, for want of a better word, was my Gainward 8800GT.
So yeah, EVGA seem to know their shit.

What resolution?

I tend to run everything in 1080p simply because anything over that is worthless to my eyes :p But I've tested upto about 2500x ish and no hitching. Max 3 for example, runs everything maxed, DX11, max tesselation and 8xFXAA and doesn't once miss a beat. Love it.

I'm waiting for my 2x EVGA GTX 670 SC 4GB to come in. Hoping to run very demanding games (Crysis 2, BF, Max Payne 3) maxed out at 2560x1440 and not-so-demanding games (Dirt 3, Dragon Age II, Might & Magic Heroes VI) at 7680x1440.

Running without MSAA makes a huge performance difference, but FXAA blurs the textures a bit. We'll see, I hope that I won't notice it since my screens have a high PPI.

Btw, having played Starcraft 2 on a 25" 1080p screen and then on a 27" 1440p screen, I have to say that it looks a lot better on the latter. The first time I saw it, it took my breath away.

Yep, it's the standard resolution for 27" 16:9 screens.

My 8800 GT (the card I had before I bought the busted Zotac 460) was also a Zotac and it worked (and still works) flawlessly.

Despite the discussion about brand quality, I'm getting the impression that no brand is really better than the others. Most times it works and some times it won't...warranty the fucker and move on.

well, not really. you can get 27" at that res, but majority appear to be 1920x1080

I guess it's incorrect to say "standard resolution", but WQHD (2560x1440) is common for high-res 27" screens and WQXGA (2560x1600) is common for high-res 30" screens.
