Manslaughter is if you accidentally run someone over with your car. The key word - and the reason it's not first degree murder - is "accidental".
There's nothing accidental in what Zimmerman did. It's second degree murder at the absolute minimum and perhaps even first degree murder, as it wasn't exactly spontaneous and -most importantly - he was told repeatedly to walk away.
I have a feeling he'll be acquitted...but allowing the jury to consider manslaughter is probably their guilt-free out.

Can someone explain to me what the hell the big deal with this case is? On average over 200 people are shot per day in this country. Why is every news outlet all over this trial?
It almost seems like they want people to obsess over it so they don't have to cover the NSA fiasco...

For me, it's not about the shooting, it's about the law (Never Give Up, Never Surrender...oh wait that's from a movie) that allowed the shooting to take place. If Zimmerman is acquitted the states that have that law will probably have a swath of gun murders very soon.
Yeah, this case has nothing to do with race. Zimmerman is just a sick fuck who wanted and excuse to kill someone, and found it in the Neighborhood Watch program and the Stand Your Ground law.

The jury considering murder charges against George Zimmerman deliberated for more than three hours today before adjourning for the night without reaching a verdict.

GZ is claiming that he was ambushed by TM on his way back to his vehicle after the dispatcher told him to stop following TM. I call bullshit. GZ is a wannabe LEO who obviously profiled TM, tracked him down and ultimately ended up killing him. I don't think that is so much 2nd degree as it is manslaughter. But no matter what it is it's heinous. GZ should serve time for taking the law into his own hands.
yeah, it seems to come down to who the jury thinks started the actual fist fight. if he did it's probably murder and if the kid did it's probably manslaughter.

In self defense cases doesn't the use of force have to be appropriate ?.
I know he said he feared for his life but any dude getting beaten up by a kid can say that ?.
I figured self defence cases were thrown out when the 'victim' goes hunting for the person he's scared of n all. Wether he turned around and started walking back to his car or not afterwards is irrelevant ?
It is interesting that I seen the forensic experts say that the Trayvon was shot at an upwards angle, implying Zimmerman was down on the ground.
