I agree with you and am not blaming the guns either, unfortunately there are stupid people. It's just a really tragic situation. And there can be equally stupid people who think they're Dirty Harry. Hopefully there aren't any copy cats planning their trip to the next batman showing.

While there has been no indication as to the motives of James Holmes, the suspected 24-year-old shooter who is now in custody, new evidence suggests that he was inspired by the Batman series of comic books and/or movies.

I'd give all my money (not just taxes...but every cent of income) to the first person that creates a "stupid people bomb" that targets only morons who have so blatantly infested this planet.

The shooter was working on a PhD in neuroscience. That makes me curious about his motivations. Most often, aren't these crimes committed by disgruntled people from the underbelly of society? I expect to see things like this from some religiously-motivated moron, or a political terrorist (McVeigh), or some guy at a menial job just snapping. I'm not sure I've ever heard of a guy with a seemingly bright future like this go off and kill a bunch of people.

So yeah, his motivation is of great interest to me now.

Maybe someone spoiled the ending for him and he got mad.

You'd think someone with the resolve and intelligence to make it that far academically wouldn't go on a shooting rampage because they didn't feel "respected" or "valued."

this. i knew a girl in grad school who was straight up bipolar - delusions, emotional outburst in public, imagined illnesses, periods of crippling depression... and easily finished her MA before disappearing. also, it's not like you need to be some sort of genius to get into a grad program.

Read the articles. He couldn't find a job out of college, worked McDonald's part time for a year, and was in the process of dis-enrolling from graduate school. He was a loner and the type of person people don't even remember.

That doesn't sound like someone who considers their future bright.
