That is a truely terrible review
Why? Seems pretty informative to me. It's written in a bit subjective way perhaps, but in the end every review that goes further than listing specs is subjective anyway.
A dozen super-colorful tiles give you a snappy report of what's new: Who's tweeted at you, what's arrived in your inbox, news headlines, photos of your beautiful face, and incoming Facebook IMs, as they drop.
There's no Twitter or Facebook app, and the most popular 3rd party client breaks often. The Kindle app is completely unusable. There's no image editing software. A People app is supposed to give you all the social media access you'd ever need, but It's impossible to write on someone's Facebook wall through the People app, Surface's social hub; the only workaround is to load Internet Explorer.
Needs to make his mind up. Does it work or not? The review is littered with contradictions from start to finish.
I love the keyboard but I hate the keyboard. The OS is wonderful to use but the OS is terrible to use. The brand new app store hasn't got anywhere near as many apps as the 5 year old iOS app store. It's like saying a new born baby can't talk like a 5 year old can; no shit!
Something as simple as loading a video requires a jumbled process of USB importing, dipping in and out of the stripped-down desktop mode, opening a Video app, importing, going back into the Video app, and then playing. What.
As opposed to the wonderful iOS solution for playing a video from an external camera where you have to convert the file (which you can't do via iTunes) then add the video via iTunes...seemless and not a hassle in any way.
It seems the reviewer tries reviewing the product on its own merits then when he knows the iPad does things better referencing it but if the iPad has the similar issues (video being the case in point) just calling it hard work and forgetting the iPad altogether. Not a single mention of an android tablet anywhere in there either...

Nope, am not. Problem is though, that once you buy into one platform (bywhich I mean that you actually pay for the apps you use) it's hard to switch. The iPad 3 is a really nice piece of hardware, but with the significant other hogging it all the time I want one for myself. It wouldn't make sense to get an Android alternative and having to get all those apps again.
Ok. Apology accepted.

lol, win8
looks like MS are finally going to break their "good OS - bad OS - good OS - bad OS" rhythm
"bad OS - worse OS - worst OS"

Windows 7 was excellent...probably the best OS Microsoft have made in terms of reliability and things just working out of the box...

Windows 7 is great but the multitasking performance was shit until I moved the OS to an SSD, despite having 12GB of performance RAM and an overclocked i7 processor.

Not sure what you task your PC to do because I have no such problems on an Intel Core Duo with 4GB of RAM.

64bit?
Saying that I dont have many issues with multitasking and my rig is nearly 3 years old now

64 bit, 12GB ram, i7 processor and also nearly 3 year old rig, no problems multitasking either.
What Eraser asked, are you running some really hefty stuff or something?

Yes, 64-bit. Installing a massive game used to make it extremely sluggish, same issue that Vista had. XP on the other hand, I could be installing Crysis, using Photoshop, surfing the web and listening to music all at once without a hitch with even older hardware.

yes, that's my point. xp (good) - vista (bad) - win7 (good) - win8 (bad) - win9 (probably worse) etc...

What makes you think that win8 doesn't just fit their good/bad/good/bad scheme and win9 will be good again?

So it's already outspecced by the existing competition and almost $100 more expensive as well? Jesus what a rip off.

In all honesty, I wonder when (and if) Apple will start trying something new.
Basically, since the release of the original iPhone, it hasn't really changed all that much. Same goes for the iPad (whose origins can actually be brought back to the iPhone).
Microsoft and Samsung are both trying new things (The Surface and Note lines respectively) and even companies like Asus try new things (Transformer). Not always equally successfully, but they're trying to push things forward. Apple has been riding the success of basically the same product ever since 2007. I wonder how long that'll stick. But by the looks of the hype surrounding the iPhone 5, they can continue doing the exact same thing for some time to come.

Because they open up the platform even the tiniest bit. That's control over the device that Apple doesn't want to give up.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I don't see how providing a basic connectivity or memory expansion option opens up their platform. The lack of either of those two things have been my biggest gripe with the iPad (other than cost) since day 1. It's why I went with the Thrive, which (though it does make it thicker) has a full-sized USB port, a micro USB port, an HDMI port, and an SD card slot.
