Does anyone here have a split monitor setup- do you get used to it?
vega debezeled his, and with the crts went to extreme lengths to create a seamless display.

I have one that I use as a driving sim (and sometimes FPS) and yes, you get used to it. You really don't notice the split unless you're looking for it.
Anyone who can't used to it obviously has attention deficit issues and probably will find endless reasons to bitch about it anyway.

Aye, suppose so.
Are allowances made on-screen for the width of your "bars"? (as in - eg. if a car was to break over 2 screens, is it's width conserved or is it rendered as if there is no bar between the screens, making it look wider?)
does that make sense?

I had triple monitor setup and it wasn't worth the trouble. It was good for WoW but even then when dialogs split the bezels it was awful. Lots of games had trouble even running because of the obscure resolution. Games that did work never had the correct aspect ratio and some had artifacts that the developer expected to be hidden. And using windows itself was kind of a pain. Plus you have to use display port and those aren't approved for hdcp.
I've since disabled and just run the three separately, with one primary for gaming.

I'll agree that using Windows on such a wide resolution is a bitch when you're going far left to use the Start menu and then have to fly to the other side for other taskbar shit. Some games are indeed not always setup for the huge wide resolutions, so you'll see some "broken" shit off to the side of the screen, but that's usually only in loading screens/cutscenes.
Regarding the games being "rendered as if there is no bar between the screens" that is the default I think. I help minimize the "bar" effect by angling the side screens and butt them up behind the centre screen and overlap the bevels of both screens, so the "bar" is only as wide as a single bevel, instead of spread out over two screen bevels, like I have setup at work.

Either split between the two monitors or behind the bezels depending on how its setup. AMD has a way to factor the bezel gaps into the video but that is mostly just used for watching movies. But yea, you really don't want to do even number of monitors.

I'm not a big fan of triple-portrait setups, but I personally play on triple-wide (7680x1440).
It's really awesome, the immersion is not comparable to playing on a single screen. With bezel correction, you don't see the bezels anymore. Surround support in games is improving, some games have implemented it really well (Tomb Raider), but some haven't. At this point if an FPS or TPS doesn't work in Surround, I don't play it. There's no going back to single-screen gaming once you get used to triple-wide.
In windows, the Taskbar is centered and nVidia software deals with putting your windows in the right place. It's pretty much the same as using extended desktop, except for occasional bugs or programs that have a UI that doesn't stick to the artificial nVidia grid ( such as Winamp and Steam).

I figured as much but I was wondering if it off centered to counter act. I can imagine an even number of monitors being a pain in the arse for pretty much everything n all, like having a blind spot in the middle of your car window. Think I'm gonna dig out my old monitors tomorrow and see how I get on with a stretched desktop, part of me thinks it'll be a pain in the arse but the other part thinks i'm missing out on a whole new world of spatial awareness

For entertainment, three screens is the way to go IMO. Your desktop experience will depend mostly on whether you're using AMD or nVidia. Having lived with both, I prefer nVidia's solution by far.
