Re: People who played MGS V demo/pre-ordered V
been playing it a bit more. im starting to like it. there hasn't been too much cookiness after the hospital scene (so far), so that is nice.Chupacabra wrote:I got MGSV The Phantom Pain.
The opening hospital scene has completely put me off. This is not the game I wanted. I wanted a newer, more badass MGS 3 (less of the Kojima "cookiness" and a relatively simple story.)
Looks like I will have to skip most of the cut scenes as I did with MGS 4 (never finished that one come to think of it.)
Re: People who played MGS V demo/pre-ordered V
Is this the one you can download on the PS4? I played it until the helicopter extraction, and for the life of me, I couldn't work out why I was supposed to enjoy anything I'd done up until that point.

Yeah, this is the one you can download on the PS4. Actually there are two MGS V games you can download on the PS4.syp0s wrote:Is this the one you can download on the PS4? (1) Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
This is the introduction to MGS V. It is pretty short and takes place at night time in Cuba. It's been out for a year or two now. It's cheap-ish as it's a glorified demo.
(2) Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
This is the main portion of MGS V and it came out this week. It's a full game.
Both games have helicopter extraction-y things. So I'm not sure which you are referring to. That being said, if you didn't like one of them (whichever it is), you're probably not going to like the other.
Re: People who played MGS V demo/pre-ordered V
It's a stealth game. Unless you like stealth, all the time, you won't like it. You get punished for doing anything other than extremely deliberate, well-thought out planning. And sometimes just to fuck you and waste your time.
I love quake!

My best rankings have been from when I didn't try to be all stealthy and just ran in fucking shit up. Regenerating health makes things pretty simple.feedback wrote:It's a stealth game. Drive a truck into guard post to draw attention, come up from the side with headshots or sprint in for some CQC.
Bait soldiers into running to pre-placed C4.
Call in airstrikes.
Snipe from the top of a cliff while they run around like chickens with their heads cut off.
I've been replaying missions to try different approaches and it's pretty fun stuff.
Re: People who played MGS V demo/pre-ordered V
It's already been said, but the stealth aspect didn't really like like that much of an important factor - after getting bored I found I could just run around like I was playing Max Payne.feedback wrote:It's a stealth game. Yeah. Regenerating health makes MGS much, much easier than before. It's very easy to hide away for a few seconds and let the health come back--especially considering how many hide away places there are in a sneaking game.Silicone_Milk wrote:My best rankings have been from when I didn't try to be all stealthy and just ran in fucking shit up. I don't consider killing anyone acceptable in a MGS game. I know it's stupid, but I just can't bring myself to play it any other way. Same with Deus Ex (actually in that one I only killed the Chinese).Silicone_Milk wrote:My best rankings have been from when I didn't try to be all stealthy and just ran in fucking shit up. What's with all the MGS Quiet photos bombarding Reddit and the like at the moment - that's pretty much the only thing I've heard of with this game

1. Does the sneaking/stealth suit make much of a difference?feedback wrote:I don't consider killing anyone acceptable in a MGS game. 2. Some weapons, such as the tranquilizing sniper rifle (I think), say that only the security team can use them. I'm not very far in the game. Does that mean that I can't use this weapon with Snake? Or does it mean that at some point I'll need to put Snake on a security team?

It seems to me that the sneaking/stealth suit makes a difference at night but during the day, a regular camo is more successful at hiding you.Chupacabra wrote: 1. Does the sneaking/stealth suit make much of a difference?

The tranq sniper can be used by snake as well. When it says the security team can equip it just means it's an option for their equipment. I just recently unlocked the tranq sniper and it's my favorite weapon so far.

Thanks for that information. One more question:Silicone_Milk wrote:It seems to me that the sneaking/stealth suit makes a difference at night but during the day, a regular camo is more successful at hiding you.Chupacabra wrote: 1. Does the sneaking/stealth suit make much of a difference?

3. From what I've read, it's best to build up mother base as much as possible early on. But I am not which order is best. Any suggestions? I am thinking of building of the base resource development platform first followed by R&D. How helpful is the support platform?

Base Resource Development is directly responsible for processing materials which will hamper you immensely if your material supply ends up a bottleneck. Focus on it first always.
R&D is nice followed by command center to increase number of units each platform can have.
I dont really focus on the others.

np. Have you made it out of afghanistan yet? I've been hesitant to start mission 13 and have been trying to clear up the side ops in afghanistan first but they just keep rolling in with new ones every time I finish one off. I'm tempted to say fuck it and just jump in to africa.

not yet. i'm still only on mission 6 or something along those lines. i've been trying to do every side mission before any main missions. i heard that is a good way to go about it.Silicone_Milk wrote:np. Mission 12 (the one before Africa opens up) took me like 2 and a half hours.
Still have some loose ends to tie up with side missions before I head there though.

I just re-played Mission 12 last night to finish up D-Walker extraction I missed on the first play through. I felt compelled to make it a stealth run for some reason and it was a pretty damn intense play through.Chupacabra wrote:Mission 12 (the one before Africa opens up) took me like 2 and a half hours.

fulton enough shit and you'll unlock the key item necessary to develop rank 3 fulton.Chupacabra wrote:not yet. i'm still only on mission 6 or something along those lines. i've been trying to do every side mission before any main missions. i heard that is a good way to go about it.Silicone_Milk wrote:np. The first two missions in Africa will help unlock some good stuff. Despite having lvl 30+ platforms, a lot of the items are locked behind mission requirements.

Also holy crap stun arm is actually useful? I just unlocked Rocket Arm but haven't given it a shot yet. Stun arm had been incredibly useless and I just stuck with the gold bionic arm from the GZ save reward.

Impressive score. I think I got like an E on that mission lolz.
62 hours is quite a lot of game time! I should check what I'm at.

Thanks I was regularly getting C ranking no matter what I did but found that being a bit more aggressive netted higher scores.
