DOOM open beta
Re: DOOM open beta
Yep. :/
The thing with that is, I really don't think the TW series developed a game I didn't like. There were some I liked better than others and some mechanics didn't quite work but on the whole I got a level of enjoyment out of each of them. To me it was one of the most reliable franchises. Then without any changes in working structure / teams or whatever Rome 2 was released and I was left scratching my head thinking what in the fuck ?. They tried so hard to dumb the game down to an almost C&C level like interface that they stripped away everything that made the game come to life.
I mean this was there bread and butter, pretty much there only fans and out of nowhere we get dicked in their search of new blood. I couldn't help but chuckle and wonder why ?, strategy games are a hard sell at the best of times.

Re: DOOM open beta
Yeah, it's a shame really. Enjoyed the hell out of the series over the years, think i've played every major game as well - not many of the expansions and standalone things though. But after this one i'm not really looking forward to the next one

Re: DOOM open beta
Maybe now some of you clowns will realize Doom 3 wasn't shit like you're told to believe.
Re: DOOM open beta
While I loved Doom 3 I didn't care much for its multiplayer either. So I'm hoping New Doom's SP is going to be rock solid.
Re: DOOM open beta
I have a feeling it'll suck. They're trying too hard to hype up the MP and it looks awful.
Re: DOOM open beta
I played some QL today... I liked the doom-Beta, it was fun! Quake is just about hektik - hustle and bustle...

TBF we should be top dogs at this game. I mean these pussies were merely adopted by nosebleed gaming. We were born by it, molded by it. By the time we got our fill it was daylight, by then it was nothing to us but blinding.

Re: DOOM open beta
I have to ask the question
is it offline now?
I tried to fire it up and can't seem to be able to get in a game.

This is a good post tooMat Linnett wrote: And then companies that are responsible for true innovation get swallowed up by bigger corporate entities. They tend to lose what made them unique in the first place as they're forced to adopt the practises of the larger corporation. Most notably here, you have Microsoft swallowing companies like Rare and Lionhead, companies once known for being some of the most inventive and innovative out there, yet a few years later all but mothballed thanks to Microsoft's homogenisation of their business practises.
I'd like to argue that new talents tend not to value their IP highly enough as well, being all too keen to sell all rights to large publishers in order to get the funding they need to make the game in the first place. This inevitably results in the slow, painful death of said IP. However, if these guys held on to their IP, chances are a lot of these games wouldn't have been made in the first place. That's a tricky act to balance, and I think it's a shame that IP laws tend to favour the holder rather than the creator.

It's a shame they got swallowed up, but even they became bum boys for Nintendo in exchange for monies. Not to knock them, they wouldn't have been so big if it wasn;t for Ninty.
Bungie have a pretty similiar history in terms of survival i think, only they latched onto MS instead so I think some do still value their own creativity / IPs but I also think companies like RARE just hit the end of the road when the driving talents leave and it goes to see saint Microsoft at the pearly gates. Same demise could be said for id ?, that rot set in long before the takeover.

Re: DOOM open beta
After Perfect Dark, most of Rare's important people moved over to Free Radical Games to make Timesplitters. Too bad they got fucked over by corporate bullshit as well. Now Crytek is sitting on the Timesplitters IP doing nothing with it.
Re: DOOM open beta
Crytek aren't doing so great either the last I heard :/
