Can you unlock the pipelines?
Uh...what pipelines?
It's an entirely differn't chip. The pipelines aren't locked. Are you thinking 6800 > 6800 GT?
And it's hard to say. If it's $275 USD for the 6600GT, then seriously, get the X800XL. It's waaaaay better and for only $25 more. But I really hope that's Canadian $.
What games do you play?
OpenGL = 6600GT
DirectX = 9800 Pro
Oh, I didn't know that. I thought it was something a la 9500pro to 9700pro via a bios flash.
6600GT 6800GT
NV-43 NV-40
11nm 13nm
8 pipelines 16 pipelines
128-bit 256-bit memory bus
3 6 vertex shader units
500MHz 350MHz core clock
The NV-43 was designed from the NV-40, but with the changes above. Even if it did have pipelines to unlock, you would probably be at a serious lack of memory bandwidth.

Oh FFS. The text formatting of this forum pisses me off. Can somebody implement some sort of table feature?

In DooM 3, yes.
Try out HL2, or FarCry. I believe the 9800 Pro is faster in either, though not by much.

My 6600GT urinates all over my 9800 pro from 12 storeys up

I have had both the 9800 pro and the 6600gt.
6600gt is a whole nother level of card. Blows the 9800 away.

Look in the URL for the 6600GT in my first post, in FarCry the 6600GT does much better then the 9800 Pro. As for Half-Life 2 it is not exactly that stressful of a game to a graphics card.

Those of you with both, are you talking about on the same system (same CPU, RAM, mobo) or 9800 Pro on old system, 6600GT on new system? Because if there's a faster CPU feeding it, yeah it is going to quite a bit better.
And if not, what do you play that this huge difference is so noticable?

P.S.
Here's something to corroborate your link with, KOS:

I believe most things posted on Anandtech. Toms is a little sketchy sometimes. But they seem to agree here.
I thought I remembered them being pretty equal when the 6600GT came out. Guess I was wrong.

From what I've heard it's about the same on old games (pre Doom 3 and HL2), but on D3 and HL2 it's way faster. And it's the best bang for your buck these days I believe.

Well, I picked up the MSI 6600GT. Big difference in the benchmark.
System:
P4 3.1GHz HT
1GB DDR400
845 Chipset
With 9800SE 128MB: 907
With 6600GT 128MB: 2299
I'm pleased. Especially since I resold my 9800SE for $100.
So I upgraded to the 6600 for only $190 after taxes (Canadian). :icon14:

Funny, i had a 9800pro, and my friend locally bought a 6600gt.. and guess what, it wasent that much nicer.. hell i got better frames in HL2, and a few other games..
in fact, the ONLY game that he was like OMGPWN in was doom3..
And our machines, are near identical.. same mobo, ram, hds, cd drives, dvd drives, ect.. only thing is he has a 3.0 and i have a 2.8..

The BFG GeForce 6600 GT OC is the best GeForce 6600 GT money can buy...

Yeah they are but the GeForce 6600 GT in the graphs aren't overclocked and they still rape ATI...any questions?

The GeForce is more cpu dependant than the ATI though...

I agree with SOAPboy, benchies are nice, but should be taken with a grain of salt.
I do love all my BFG Tech cards and I think a BFG Tech 6600GT OC would be a better choice then a 9800 Pro.
I find it odd that the 6600GT takes such a hit going from 3.0 to 2.8, seems quite odd. I also find it odd that the 9800 Pro with a 3.0 scores 117.2 and the 3.2 scores a 117 and the 3.4 scores a 116.9. I am looking at the HL2 chart

Well no shit it's faster than a 9800SE. SE = Shit Edition
It's not even comperable to a 9800 Pro.

Which is why I upgraded ace.
