i'm sure that early on he didn't have all the science and money to fine tune his equipment. don't try and take away the pure and unadulterated ownage he has bestowed on the cycling world.

NONE of the racers should have technological tweaks. It should all be based on their physical abilities. Otherwise it comes down to who has the better bike helmet. :dork:

but doesn't that take away from some of the personalization involved? By that logic, all tennis players should use the same, standard issue tennis racquets...

To be honest, in the great scheme of things, I don't think it makes all that much difference at the level they're competing.

Precisely. The items Transient mentioned make miniscule differences, especially in comparison to the physiological advantages Lance already has.

Actually they can make huge differences in a race this long. Just not in Lance's case, because he's a machine already.

aside from that he's the man, you could acknowledge that he's doing everything to gain (small) advantages during this monstrous Tour.

Not applying that he's doing dope, because everyone's doing that.

Lance has 30% bigger heart and more efficient oxygen uptake because he trains for it :icon27:
I'll bet his heartrate in rest is about 35.

I would have liked to have seen Miguel Indurain come back and beat Lance. I beleive they raced against each other in the mid 90's though and Indurain won.

I beleive I've read a long time ago that Miguel Indurains heartbeat at rest was 29.

Why don't we go back to the 70's and let him race against Eddie Merckx with the same bikes all year on all classics. No match.

Well Indurain and Lance actualy raced against one another.

Plus Indurain actualy has won the tour the france 5 times. I beleive he retired after his last win although I'm remembering a final loss but I forget if it was the olympics or something else.

Different era, and Lance probably had cancer then.

Merckx won the Tour 5 times, Hinault achieved the same.

Yeah he did in the last years of indurains reign. Still a great cyclist though, both are, I just always liked Indurain. Just a simple farmer.

Read up

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddy_Merckx

He's also only one of four cyclist to win the 3 grand tours (Tour de France, Vuelta a Espana, Giro d'Italia), etc.

He was uncomprising, always going flat out. He cycled ten thousands of kilometers each year.

That's fucked up a frenchman would fucking punch him while he was racing to cause him to lose though, I hope they put him in jail for a few years.
