Nerds bitch about 'ware that takes up more system resources than needed for its function. A program like Word shouldn't take up that many resources... it's just a word processor! A media player shouldn't take up that many resources... it's purpose is to play music. That's why I prefer programs like foobar2000 & Media Player Classic over WMP10 or iTunes or Real Player; I want a program that plays music or a DVD and leaves it at that; I don't want extra eye candy or unnecessary features. This is what nerds become obsessive compulsive about.Geebs wrote:The really wierd thing about this sort of 'ware is that the people who use it are mostly huge nerds who, under other circumstances, constantly bitch about anything using up system resources.
thanks for thatmjrpes wrote:Nerds bitch about 'ware that takes up more system resources than needed for its function. I just installed konfabulator (awful name) and I like it, even though it takes up more system resouces than a more visually simple program would probably do. Widgets like the calendar and weather are very nice to have: they are functional and visually pleasing. They are also pretty minimalistic, which is a plus as they don't seem to clutter up the desktop. Connecting the 'to do' list with the calendar would be pretty cool... it could act as a sort of minimal and simple outlook program.
Not much from what I can tell, but my work box is a Xeon with 1.5 gigs of ram and my laptop has a gig+JuggerNaut+ wrote:ok, break the news, how much of a pig is this?
It runs on Windows and OS X. IT was originally Mac only, but when Apple ripped them off and released the Dashboard on Tiger, the Konfabulator people jumped ship and ported to Windows because they were charging for the productajerara wrote:this is cool, I found one that shows the local surfcams one after the other. Wish I had OS X at work.
It connects to iCal.. I think that's left over from the OS X only daysmjrpes wrote:Connecting the 'to do' list with the calendar would be pretty cool... it could act as a sort of minimal and simple outlook program.
Erm, sir, you can do that. Right click on your widget and select "window" then chance "level of window"Shmee wrote:This would be great if you could force some of the widgets to be always on top. Otherwise it's just a cute little toy
Ah, I see. Some obey the settings and some don't. Pity.Shmee wrote:This would be great if you could force some of the widgets to be always on top. Otherwise it's just a cute little toy
Maybe on your computer which is made of turds.Shmee wrote:Ah, I see. Some obey the settings and some don't. Pity.Shmee wrote:This would be great if you could force some of the widgets to be always on top. Otherwise it's just a cute little toy
Yes I saw that. It seems the widgets don't obey the setting when place on top of the taskbar.o'dium wrote:Erm, sir, you can do that. it would be pretty easy if q3w had an RSS feed.werldhed wrote:I should make a widget that informs the user of updated q3w threads. :icon26:
