mkj -- yeah, I believe that's all there is to it. You didn't extract it to a weird folder that already had jdoom or another source port did you?

i first extracted it into a seperate folder in my doom dir. so it was zdoom/absolution/bin etc.
then i tried installing it in my C: root.
no dice :(

OK... video card issue, maybe? Does the main menu come up properly when you start the program?

aye, the menu works good. once i load a map i keep getting a HoM. if i open up the menu ingame the problem goes away till i close it again

Interesting. I wonder if it has to do with your video card, though, for some reason. I remember a couple of years ago, I had jDoom running on an old system and while I didn't have mirrors, the text in the menu and in-game was completely screwed up.

I don't remember if I had nvidia or ati back then.

you might think a gf3 should do the trick :D
i find the total lack of support quite discouraging btw. that kaiser dude is like "yea it works for me so if it doesnt work for you youre a dolt"

[edit] off to bed now. more fiddling tomorrow ;)

Since when would I say something like that? :icon26:

Anyways, its more likely an issue with the video card. But it wouldn't matter, the engine is getting a huge makeover and hopfully should run on a wider selection of video cards...
You can check the doomsday forums to view its progression..

The TC will be re-designed for the Doomsday engine, so you will no longer be forced to use that worthless absolution.exe

You just need Doom2.wad, which is basically all the game info/assets. You don't need the original executable or anything though.

Well, if you're using a source port like ZDaemon, Skulltag, ZDoom, Doomsday, jDoom, or prBoom, everything you need should be in the in-game options.

If you're using Doom.exe or Doom2.exe, you'll just need to run the setup program that's in the install directory. It's the one where you have to configure your sound card and all that. The keyboard and mouse controls are found there.

But if you're a casual DOOM player, a source port should be pretty much infinitely superior.

Yeah, running Absolution should be a breeze. Read the manual.
