Right now my desk is 2 feet deep but have a shelf that's also a foot deep so I actually only have 1'ft of desk depth.
Plus I wanted it that wide because of the drawers on each side.

All I need is one massive LCD... which is on order

That's about how big mine is, minus a foot in width.. Only way to get 3 CRTs on there without having them hang off the back of a desk by a foot

I've just got one monitor and a KVM switch.

Dual monitors would be nice, but it's just not worth it to me, as seldom as I would need two at once.

The MDF will be painted black and I'll probably stain the top and face plates with some sort of dark stain but not too dark. I was actually maybe thinking about doing a clear stain but I'll have to see what it looks like when I'm done.

Does IKEA count. I used their office design software and designed my desk, then picked it up. and assembled it. It's exactly what I wanted and plenty of room for expansion in the future.

Yea I hear you. I've got kinda the same setup now, and have been thinking about getting a new one. Mine's about 3 foot wide, with an extra foot on a side shelf. But there's a shelf along the back of the desk that I sit my monitor on, which eats up about half of my total desktop space and bugs the shit out of me. And I don't have any drawers, which also drives me crazy.

My dad bought me the desk for my birthday a few years ago, but I believe it's just about time to get rid of it.

They let you design it yourself? How much do they charge for that? How much was your total desk?

left is for work, right is for clutter. But I have a 24" widescreen on the way that has plenty of room on the sides for overflow (and dual inputs to plug in the shitbox (Dell) under the desk too)

Not really design it yourself.
You can pick out pieces that are allready premade and you can change the legs. You can fit different parts togehter and see what it looks like.

And you can change the colour.

The software is free, once you make the design it gives you the parts you need to pickup. With this setup I can make a desk that spans the entire room :icon14:

The desk is modular, you can see the splits near the round parts, those come off and they have pre made pieces that you can add in between. The frame allows for addins in any direction. and a variety of different Leg styles.

The desk, frame, legs, cable managemint trays, and printer stand were around $400.00

Below is a shot when I first got it with the CRTs and swivel stands also I had 3 computer mounts 1 being used for a subwoofer.

overall though i think juggernaut's takes the cake (believe he posted it in the last desk thread). glass desks look nice IMO.

Posted in the second pic were all the accessories like 2 monitor stands, 3 PC desk clamps, and the printer stand with drawrs. I'm guessing the desk alon and legs would run around $280.00

My desk will probably be around $300 or so. Once I get all the dimensions known then I can start on the cut layouts for the wood.

ouch...yeah that does seem very overpriced. you can get a very nice, higher quality desk for significantly less. the shape you can always shop around for. i guess if thats the exact shape you needed/looked for thats cool.

i absolutely agree with you on the cheap thing.

afterall, it is one of the reasons that they are so big.

They have many grades and quality of furnature. My fat ass can stand on that desk without it even letting out a creak. :icon14:

i thought i'd made my own desk, but seeing that pic reminded me that i just made a table.

As it happens I just came back from ikea with some pre-made ajustable legs and a frame for them. Gonna stick some 5'6" x 2' 18mm MDF on the top, after I've painted it and rounded the corners. £25/ea for the legs, and they're ajustable from something like 70cm to 90cm, which is perfect for me. Its for a load of my studio kit, but I'm making room for a monitor too. I'll post pics when its done.

The legs I got are called "Galant" T-Legs and a frame to match, which gets bolted to the MDF.

i exclusivly use tables because i like all the flat surface real estate.

i dont care for wall desks as i like to spec out the window.

years ago i used a nice piece of cedar plywood as a desktop surface.

it was very nice ans soft and smelt real pleasant :

Well the desk will cost me an extra $60 for an extra sheet of Maple.
I want all the grain to match up for the drawers and legs.
I do have enough room on one sheet but it won't look right if the grains don't match up.
