I'm with horton, I've had my Rottie being the only glue that held my world together at times. He was there when no one else was, and he asked nothing but to be fed, watered, and played with. Unconditional love and loyalty are powerful things. Hence the reason for the waterworks on the day I had to put him down. But again, you grieve, suck it up and get back to what needs to be done. Personally I would only take off for immediate family dying. Extended family only for the funeral. Definately not for a pet.
