You know what's sick is that the official figures show 64 people died. I saw it in a news report comparing the Japanese meltdown to Communist Russia's.

Officials on Aug. 12 found compost in a kindergarten yard in Tokamachi city, Niigata prefecture containing radioactive cesium measuring 27,000 becquerels per kilogram, Kenichiro Kasuga, an official at the city’s disaster prevention department, said by phone.

Under Japanese law, waste measuring over 8,000 becquerels per kilogram must be treated as radioactive waste and can’t be buried in a landfill.

http://www.examiner.com/article/fukushi ... evacuation
Evidence has been released Friday showing new radiation is leaking at Fukushima's nuclear power plant as its operator TEPCO disclosed more video recordings of its in-house teleconferences in the early phase of the 2011 catastrophe, showing employees' tense communications before radioactive water was released into the sea. The UN calling for TEPCO and the government to observe health rights earlier this week has prompted an urgent international petition to evacuate radiated children.

“We have confirmed a worst situation — Water containing extremely high levels of radiation flowing into sea,” Masao Yoshida, then manager of the plant, says in new video footage of early days of the Fukushima catastrophe.

President of The Institute for Energy and Environmental Research Arjun Makhijani told NBC News TODAY that the Japanese government has not been forthcoming about the amount of radiation leaking from the Fukushima nuclear plant and that new radiation is being released.

As many as 300,000 Japanese children are being radiated daily. The radiation level is increasing.
etc etc

so tired of the world's backwards thinking.

Don't worry, we're a blip. It will all be over soon.

As someone who lives more or less on the direct receiving end of Japan's toxic shit (across the pond in Vancouver) I'm anxiously waiting to see what effect this has on us. There was an abandoned fishing boat that arrived here a few months back, presumably one that was ravaged by the Tsunami. If a boat can make it here that fast, then I would assume that, to some degree, our waters are already radioactive. But hey, let's build some more pipelines and add unrefined oilsands slime to that mix.

They say when sea-foam mixes with oil it produces a substance that looks similar to chocolate mousse. So I say we export our specialty: radioactive chocolate mousse.

#3 Officials in Japan admit that 300 tons of radioactive water from Fukushima is entering the Pacific Ocean every 24 hours.

#5 According to Tepco, a total of somewhere between 20 trillion and 40 trillion becquerels of radioactive tritium have gotten into the Pacific Ocean since the Fukushima disaster first began.

#11 According to the Wall Street Journal, it is being projected that the cleanup of Fukushima could take up to 40 years to complete.

I like this one:

#4 According to a professor at Tokyo University, 3 gigabecquerels of cesium-137 are flowing into the port at Fukushima Daiichi every single day…

CS-137 has a half life of about 30 years... not the most horrible in the grand scheme of radioactive elements. But fuck me if this isn't some ugly, ugly, ugly stuff. :disgust:

Man, call me a weirdo or whatever, but reading about the state of affairs that we've created for ourselves on this planet and all I can do is laugh. Like, seriously? What the fuck is going on?

It's already having effects across the pond for us (West Coast Canada), fish are turning up with fucked up mutations, random bleeding/hemorrhaging. Also I'm looking forward to ingesting some radioactive iodine in the near future, seeing as how iodine controls the body's metabolism. I figure if I can make my metabolism radioactive then maybe I can handle all this radioactive strontium that mimics calcium in the body!
