Well that would make sense maybe if they would have put more ram in it... But 1 gig prevents any future proofing...I hear extra tabs in safari still reload upon returning to them... That's just pathetic...

That's not correct. 64 bit just increases the number of memory addresses. It's not like a 64-bit OS can store more data in the same amount of space.

if there are twice as many addresses..cant programs use it more efficiently? As in not needing to allocate as much ram..thus making your 1gb go further...hmmm?

The data wether 32 or 64 bits still needs to be stored in RAM and sent to the CPU, the CPU can just process more information in a single cycle, which helps with larger numbers or bit arrays.

"64-bit processors also feature many more registers, which allows for much greater simultaneous crunching of data. Many might argue this is actually more important than the address space issue."

Thats all for today class...you're welcome.

The vast majority of applications, even PC games don't require 64 bit because the address space is fucking hoog, which has a knock on effect on the amount of RAM used and program size if supported, which is a rare commodity on mobile devices. Games that do need 64bit compatibility tend to require it because of the increase in RAM.

So what have we learned from this thread?... That Apple's new approach is "if you can't beat them, join them" but with 2012 hardware and features. Also there will always be morons like shaft who will fall for slick marketing and hype... :olo: ...
