The Devil Wears Prada
5/10
slightly funny. slightly entertaining. rather cheeseballish.
i think the only reason i'm giving it such a high rating is because 1) i got to see it with three hot chicks who 2) made fun of the movie the whole way through. however im sure they all questions my sexual preferences now. fuck.

pirates of the carribean 2
total pile of poop. the special effects were good and all that, but it literally had no plot - just a bunch of shit happening one thing after another. it's a 2 hour trailer for the next movie. save your money and get it as a rental... or, better yet, don't. if it weren't suprisingly violent (and sometimes graphically so, for a disney production) it could make a good kids' movie... assuming your kids are too dumb to realize that there's no real structure to it. i am not at all joking when i say do NOT spend money on this unless you really have a deep need to look at johnny depp for a couple hours or get off on cgi fish-people. i liked the first one, but this was such a blatant money grab by the studio that i was actually offended sitting there at the end.
6/10 only for the good acting and seamless, if intentionally cartoonish, cgi.
edit: oh, oh! i figured out what it reminded me of - matrix 2! big chase scene and fancy special effects, but really nothing more to it than the rising action for something cool that will theoretically take place in the 3rd. if anything, this had even less of a conclusion to it than matrix 2 though. bleh.

The Myth
Even if you were the greatest Jackie Chan fan that ever lived, you still wouldn't like this film. Stay away from it, it's bad.
Whisper Of The Heart
Another great Studio Ghibli film, 10/10.

bit too arty but not bad, ben kingsley is on very good form - and unless you're a total shut-in or have been very lucky, you'll recognise the character he plays.

pirates 2 - 6/10
... or 7/10 if you count in the awesome
slapstick sequences. some of the best i've seen in some time.
the story takes about 45 minutes to get rolling. to many characters had to be introduced. afterwards it's just a bunch of good action scenes tied together by a simple story that has the same feeling as the first movie.
character development only happens for jack and elisabeth and only in the last 30 minutes (with some foreshadowing for elisabeth early on).
will is still the boring "good guy" ... as in the first movie.

Firefox with Clint Eastwood.
Solid gold cheese. Better than Stealth but not quite Flight of the Navigator if we're talking films-with-shiny-metal-aircraft.
