there's been some piss poor officiating in many of the games. The USA played very well today though. They should be proud.

@juggs:

Born in Germany - root for Germany. of course i've lived in the US most of my life, but that doesn't mean i have to root for the US.

a part of me wanted for them to put up a good showing, which i think they did, only if to help increase the popularity of football in the states.

ah i see. well that's cool :) i too would like to see Germany do well.

i was just wondering. i know too many people that have recently got into soccer and they're huge fans of Manchester United, AC Milan, Juventus, Chelsea, Real Madrid, but don't care about the American teams at all and in fact root for the big teams over them.

i guess its natural that people are like that at first because those teams get the most coverage and stuff. i just like to see people root for the local teams and clubs even if they arent the best or greatest.

also, even though i dont care much for british soccer, i think they have the best fans and systems in the world. the way they support their local teams and lower divisions is pretty cool. its not just about ManU, Chelsea and Arsenal.

apparently there's an MLS side called Real Salt Lake :olo: i wonder if the people who named it know what the 'Real' part actually means...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Madrid
In 1920 the club became Real Madrid FC after receiving the royal patronage of Alfonso XIII.

wtf was Kewell thinking?
he virtually had an open goal, got a rush of blood and skies it :(

they only need a draw or better from the Croatian game to go through ;)

edit:
im sick of seeing these girls rolling around in agony when they get a tap on the ankle, then they get the free kick and they're fine.
i was watching the Broncos game on friday (NRL) Karmichael Hunt played the last 10 minutes with a broken foot.
had it been a soccer played they would have called for the stretcher, most of the soccer players are better divers than Greg Louganis
:olo:

If you surrender a free kick just to make yourself look like a REAL MAN, you're retarded.

the girly pitch behaviour happens because they know the refs are increasingly told by FIFA to be less tolerant of hard physical contact, so it's inevitable players will try to use that to their advantage

imo less physical contact promotes more physical skill. if you can't get the ball off the other guy by taking his legs away, you have no option but to develop some skill

Heh, I just read an article about all the disappointed hookers who thought the British and Dutch fans would bring a lot of money.

Turns out they're all too drunk or too broke to fuck.

Goddamnit! That fucking ref!

Two Bulgarian prisoners have sewn up their mouths and are refusing to eat until they are allowed to watch the World Cup.

Prison director Vesselin Kotzev said the two lifers, serving time in the Pazardzhik jail, had demanded a TV in their cells.

He said they had also asked for unlimited supplies of tea, coffee and cigarettes.

Kotzev said: "I am negotiating with them to convince them that sealing their mouths is not the way to put forward their demands, which are unrealistic."

The pair, who left a small part of their mouths unstitched so they can still smoke, warned another 15 prisoners would follow suit if their demands were not met.

kinda reminds me of the german ref in the brazil vs aus game.

Brazil received 25 free kicks and Australia received only nine.

btw, kewell has been cleared, which makes me wonder if FIFA realised he had a legitimate axe to grind :icon26:

Kewells reaction after the game only proved the ref's point.

But of course it's always a conspiracy when your team loses.
