Maybe in your world it's okay to assume everyone is talking about "under air" square footage. But that's likely coming from an apartment/condo lifestyle. But people who live in houses usually care about how big their garages or patios are.

Actually I have two. Both in neighborhoods with curbs, sidewalks, streetlights and buried power lines. Not quite sure what's going on where you live. It's like they took a mobile home park and built houses instead.
