Why I Carry a Gun

I don't carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I'm evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don't carry a gun because I'm angry. I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and if I go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

"Police Protection" is an oxymoron. Free citizens must protect themselves. Police do not protect you from crime; they usually just investigate the crime AFTER it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.

Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 9 minutes. The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
-Edmund Burke

Even from the standpoint of someone who doesn't care if people own guns for sport or hunting or even home defense if they are so inclined, those arguments are a crock of shit.

I do endorse gun ownership. I REALLY endorse blowing someones head off who is trying to hurt me or my family, or other innocents. I put that quote up alone, because I thought is was reasonable whatever my own viewpoint might be. The person who wrote it could very well be a nutcase, but the reasonable tone and politeness shown in getting the info across displayed character. It seems to contrast the response from the other side. That whole "OMG! He has a firearm so he must be psychotic!" attitude is the real bullshit.

@tnf: Those arguments are completely reasonable. I know that where you live is not a huge crime mecca, but there are places where those points are 100% valid. Fact: A violent criminal will take down the easiest prey. If he knows you are armed and aware, he will move on.

I couldn't help noticing, when I lived in St Maries, the lack of gangs/gang wannabes, car jacking, muggings, and rapes. Course, nearly everyone there owns a gun. Everyone there understands that there are real time consequences to trying to harm someone else there.

Mutual Assured Destruction is an ugly thing to contemplate, but it has proven to work, in practice, more than the Unarmed Utopia model.

lol, not surprised to see this thread turn into a gun ownership debate. I haven't held forth on this subject for a while, so why not? There's no need for the average person to have a gun, and they most likely don't understand the "constitutional grounds" on which they claim the right to own one. IIRC, you have a more legitimate reason to own an "assault rifle" than a handgun, and if you think you need an AK, you're a fucking idiot. You can want one all day long, but if you think you need one, that's enough reason for you to not have one.
I've lived in some shitty areas, and the only time I was confronted with gun violence was in my lily-white hometown in VT. I do support people carrying guns if they feel that they're likely to be mugged, or if they have been mugged, I just don't support idiots. Until we can ban morons IRL, I guess we're kinda fucked.
Anyways, fuck all you hippies and fascists alike.

Well see, that would be nice. To be able to ban idiots from having em. If there were no idiots, we wouldn't need guns. There IS idiots. Idiots DO have guns. Reality is that they are useful (guns, not idiots) and just because you've never needed one does not mean that they aren't needed.

No guns for average people?
It's more legitimate to own an assault rifle, but AKs are for idiots?

You need an IQ over 80 to comprehend Nightshade's post Gramps, that's why both you and peenyuh have no idea what he said.

I actually just got a new shotgun this weekend. Well it's old, but new to me. It's an old Ithaca 12 gauge, single shot break action. It was a gift.

It looks to me like he's trying to make some type of perfect world point about how only a select group of people should have guns. But then he's not really clear about what people or guns. That's why I asked for clarification. Maybe you could explain exactly what NS meant.

What's the point. Like I said it's a pretty easy post to understand, yet an IQ over 80 is needed to comprehend it. Try not to think about it too much as your bald head might explode from the confusion.

I was sort of hoping that Gramps would fall into that 'people that are smart enough to own a gun' category, but he's not really helping his case much here. Peenyuh shouldn't even be allowed to look at pictures of guns.

Yer only mad cause Airborne beat jarhead any day on the range. :D

@LawL: Thought so. You bail every time someone calls you out. The word "moron" coming out of your mouth is so ironic it becomes background noise. You can go sit at the bitch table until you're ready to sit with the men again.

Yes I'm sure being called "moron" is background noise to you, considering you must hear it multiple times a day in every facet of your pathetic life.
