I must admit I haven't actually played Rocket League, but I'm not disliking it for it being too simplistic or anything. I can see the appeal of the type of game, but whenever I'm watching videos of someone playing it, I can't get over the feeling that it looks like complete retards without legs trying to play a game of football. It looks like a constant fight against controlling the vehicle and trying to do useful things with the ball, which seemingly ends up as people just flinging themselves across the playing field in hopes of getting a lucky hit. This is also
exactly what I'm seeing with Lucioball.
The reason I liked Proball so much is because it is
tight. There's no weapons except for the gauntlet. You can't get damaged or die though. When you walk over the ball, you pick it up and can no longer defend yourself. You can accurately pass the ball over to team mates. If you get slapped with a gauntlet while holding the ball, the slappee steals the ball off of you. The result is that control isn't an issue. You can make the ball do
exactly what you want it to and rather than fighting the control scheme or the physics involved with it, the game is pushed to a next level that involves tactics and strategy. When played 3v3 or 4v4, position play like in football matches is actually a thing with Proball.
Maybe something like that happens with Rocket League as well and I just haven't seen it yet. But for me it'll probably be a struggle against physics and control, just like what I experienced with Lucioball. So yeah, I won't be playing either one.

Loved playing this at the LAN. Really made some quality progress on the team building. We won a lot of games and took on some quality teams.

RL is a blast with friends. I have a few friends that I play with exclusively and that is probably the main appeal of the game to me. However, it's far from clunky and difficult to control, the game is extremely precise and achieving aerials and good team synergy isn't exactly easy. There's a pretty wide skill gap in RL. I'd highly recommend giving it a shot if it ever comes out free to play. They often have a week long free play days with RL to drum up business and it works well. I know a few friends that wound up buying it cause of the free days, if I see it going on again I'll let you know.

Yeah I don't like these nearly as much because they're just regular old songs whose lyrics happen to be about Overwatch. Other than that, there is no relation to the game at all. The music isn't even in the style of the game.
Good efforts on their own account I guess, but not quite in the same league as the Winston/Reaper/McCree one.

Not sure if the "21 heroes" has been posted here before (I think it was featured in the Battle.net launcher some time ago) but I like that one very much as well:

This one's great because it remixes the Overwatch main theme into the song, which really cements the connection to the game.

but yeah, it's great. I'm not super fond of the chorus, but most of the verses are awesome, notably those for Zarya, Zenyatta, Junkrat, and Hanzo.

Here's the most rational explanation for the loot box controversy I've seen.

You don't have to buy the boxes to get the skins. Just play the game if you want them that badly. They are not forcing you to buy them

It's anecdotal evidence at best. I'm sure there are a lot of people that are very sensitive to vanity items. Those people will regard themselves as "haves" or "have-nots". The have-nots desperately want to be in the haves camp. So badly even, that they're willing to spend money to have a chance at becoming a have. Having said that, do you equip a legendary skin or victory pose if you unlock it? If so, then you may be more sensitive than you think.
Personally, I'm somewhat sensitive to it. There are some Overwatch skins I'd really like to have because they look cool, but I have resisted the urge to buy loot boxes so far, but that's also due to them being rather expensive IMO. At the same time, I have enough in-game credits to unlock a legendary skin and I havent done that yet either.
I also think that the thrill of seeing what's in a loot box (I bet your heart jumps a little if you see a yellow flare coming out of a box) pushes buttons with people and miht even get them to pull their credit card. It may not be about a specific skin or legendary skins in general, but about the psychological reward a loot box may give you.
In the end though, as much as I think the loot box system is rather crappy (and not rewarding enough), I personally dont experience it as evil. I can resist it's little psychological tricks, but again, I suspect quite a few people can't.

Ah now in some ways I get it. Yes I do change skins when I get ones I like, but I do that because I like the look of it more than the other skins I have for that character. Not because I want to be cool or anything. Hell, I used to download skins and models for Q2 because I liked them, not because I needed to feel cool. And I like opening the loot boxes and seeing whats inside them. But I don't automatically open them as soon as I get them, between rounds. I have had 5 sat there before now and then I just opened them one after another. It isn't a big deal to me, really. The only reason they would become a big deal is if I go on an achievement mission and I want 50 upgrades for each character...
Like I said, Keel in Q3 is used by pretty much everyone because he is the biggest model and because he has the loudest footsteps. Overwatch does that automatically by making enemy footsteps louder and the foot steps of the enemy most harmful to you the loudest of them all. Also Overwatch is class based where is Q3 is just a "pure" shooter.
I guess I am just not bought into it like some people? I prefer the actual playing of the game and smashing through another team with my mates more than I care about dressing Torbjorn up like a pirate....

For perspective, the stuff you unlock is purely cosmetic, and has zero effect on gameplay or balance. They've said, and stuck to their promise so far, that you won't need to pay for or otherwise have to unlock new maps and heroes.

I don't even notice skins on people while I'm playing, really. Maybe while in the spawn room before a match starts. When the match gets going, I look for the silhouettes of characters, not what color scheme or outfit they use. I think I have 4k+ currency piled up and nothing I really feel like spending it on.

Being purely cosmetic doesn't matter if their goal is to push players, who have already bought the game at a full price, to continue paying for tiny things.

Yeah that's why I don't really care about the loot system. I'm just saying that I do understand where people are coming from.
Alternatively, I could complain about Blizzard putting time and effort into a loot system that has no appeal to me while they could've been working on the game itself, bit with a game as complete and polished as Overwatch, that point is moot.

Good info
Who is everyones go to character in this game? I seem to rock Reinhardt like a beast on PC but Torbjorn on PS4

If I'm just mucking around, I'll pick anyone. When trying to play seriously, I mainly play support, so Zenyatta and Lucio these days. If supports are sorted, I'll tank, either D.Va or Reinhardt. If DPS is lacking, I'll go McCree or Soldier 76. Occasionally a cheeky Junkrat on defence.
I really need to practice Zarya, she's an absolute beast if played correctly. Same for Genji.

I am pretty shitty with technical characters. So Hanzo and Genji, but then I am suprisingly terrible with Zarya and Reaper too, which is strange given my Quake background.
Soilder 76, Reinhardt, Torbjorn, Mercy and Pharah are my top selections. I can do some good work with Junkrat and Widowmaker too if needed. Some other characters I can use if needs be, D.Va being one of them. But there are a lot that I just cant get my head around yet.
