How late in the evening did you take those pics GKY? In two of them, it looks like a big city, but there's no one around. Such a big city, all those lights, but hardly anyone there. I'm used to New York I guess.

The picts were taken in Copenhagen about two months ago at around 9 pm. Copenhagen isn't overly crowded except the Metro in the morning and
Strøget up until 6 pm....and obviously the stores were all closed at the time I snapped them. Just to the left in the second pict (out of frame) is the big, round skating rink CPH puts there every Christmas....not too crowded there either but lots of people.
All the areas in the Copenhagen picts are full of tourists during the day. Just google for picts of Copenhagen streets and you'll find images of the crowd levels during daytime when the stores are open.
I'm guessing that at it's peak around 1 pm, Strøget is as crowded as a typical New York street.

Beautiful. The last pic is the wallpaper on my pc at work now. Thanks.

Cool. That was taken just outside the door of my apartment in Copenhagen. And the big church (second to last photo) was right across the street (out of frame and to the left in the last pict). Actually...the whole series of apartment blocks are designed around the church in a ring.

The church/apartment area is also right next to the Royal Palace so the whole area was very nice.
I'm gonna miss seeing that every morning.

Fatty, you could try using a tripod and forcing the ISO as low as it will go. I'm guessing you have a P&S, if so you might have to live with the halos. It's a draw back of having such a small lens.

Some stuff from me:

From out of my window...
...and two shots I took in a condemned house somewhere in my town.

Thnx for your replies btw guys
GFY: Based on the EXIF info of your pictures you are using a HP P&S. Judging the quality of the pictures, I'm afraid to say that the image sensor is quiet crappy and you won't get rid of the halos when you do nightshots.
The first shot is quiet noisy even with the setting you are using: ISO100 (shouldn't give any noise), Exposure 0.9 sec and F2.8 (maybe you can try to set it to F7 if you have a tripod).

Chopov, I like the 2nd shot because of the low light and the shadows

Yeah....sigh.
Copenfagen is definately a beautiful city. I'm waiting for Montreal to get green before I make any judgments on it because all I've had since I moved here is white out. Oh well...at least I have a decent view from my balcony and I can BBQ out there in the summer.
Plus...I've had more sunny days here in Montreal in the past month than I had in Denmark over the course of a year. I'm a sunshine whore.

Thanks. I have a tripod (a lightweight, cheaper one...not a steady, heavy one) and I've used it in the picts. I think the ISO was at 100 when I snapped them but I'll make sure I reset the ISO before taking night shots.

Cool. I have an
HP P927 P&S and I'll create a few presets for night picts in addition to it's night presets. Thanks for the tips.
One more question: I have the metering mode set to centre weighted. For night shots, should I set it to full image average?

Fuck u flower print.
BTW...from the
camera review I linked to earlier:
With the latest round of Photosmarts, HP has added to that in-camera functionality with HP Design Gallery, a new suite of in-camera artistic effects and borders including a much talked about "Slimming" function which will reportedly take as much as ten pounds off your subject's physique.
*waits for the inevitable*
Also, the review is pretty much spot on in terms of what I've seen using this camera for the past year. While the camera fits the way I take pictures in terms of it's speed, usability and functionality, even with the 8.2 mp sensor it seems I'll never take really good night shots with this camera.
BTW....Sat and MaCaBr3...very nice night shots from a couple of pages back.
Also Doombrain...this is fucking nice:
A very sombre image. I didn't know you were so gay.

One more question: How do you guys get such high contrast in your picts? Is there something I can tweak with a good setting?
Or do you guys just PS it afterwards?
