Stole 6 running-meters of old grey weathered, anted, wormed and whatnot 15X25cm wooden beams from a deconstruction site on my company compound.
Grinded and brushed and epoxied, and grinded and brushed and waxed 'em.
They'll make fabulous decorative beams; it really is something to work with.
They still have some 30 running-meters laying around at the deconstruction site. Gonna snap 'em on Sunday if they're still there.

I've seen this sort of work done before and they come up beautifully. Pics of the surface finish might be nice for the crowd.Ferrao10 wrote:Stole 6 running-meters of old grey weathered, anted, wormed and whatnot 15X25cm wooden beams from a deconstruction site on my company compound.

Re: What is new in your little world?
Aye Sir,
gonna make some photos on Sunday.
But to keep your expectations low: Only the 6 meters I already got were weathered,; the other ones, if available, had been coated with simple black paint. No laqueur but simple paint. And all of them 30 meters were not in direct contact with the sun or weather. They are just 20 year old beams.

Got the bike today. Made its maiden voyage. Weather was a bit shitty but I persevered and at the end the sun momentarily even broke through. The start of something beautiful

Photos as promised, Whiskey7. Better late than never. It's gonna be a rather lenghty reply due to unforeseen circumstances

Well, these were the raw beams:

And that's one after grinding and sanding down to feelgood:
[lvlshot]http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/3765/u50o6miaopowbwa6g.jpg[/lvlshot]
2.65 meters long, 20-30 kilos, solid pure open wood there. No glaze, nothing. Not sure yet how I'll threat the beams. Got 6 of them now.
Anyways, this is nothing compared to the shit that came out of nowhere into the shop today:

2 of the original cameras that were used to film Das Boot.
The black left and second to right things are the actual cameras, the grey and blue things are strong hulls that the cameras were housed in, like compartements.
The blue hull in closeup:
[lvlshot]http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/8397/2cwe3fvagw8nnre6g.jpg[/lvlshot]
It does not look waterproof, so it probably was used for shots inside the "dry, interior set". It might have been just a cover to not damage the actual camera when running around inside the (extremely narrow) set. I'm just guessing, we haven't been told yet.
[lvlshot]http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/b3a8/bdh0zkt5adtxz5o6g.jpg[/lvlshot]
Turns out the actual camera on that left black thing from shot 01 is even smaller. It's this SONY CCD.
And here's a look inside the blue hull:

This thing must have been made from a mold, much like boat-hulls are done today. Epoxy and fiberglass brushed into a negative. But I do wonder how they formed the first positive (the master) that they would then take the negative of.
Yeah, that was a very eventful day today.
After all the dust settled, I thought to myself: "Fuck it, I need a beer and get done with my pedalboard."
So, here's my first attempt at building a pedalboard for guitar-effects-pedals made from trash and leftovers:

Re: What is new in your little world?
Next Saturday, as part of a fundraiser/speed climbing competition, my team of 4 will be trying to climb over 18,000 vertical feet within 4 hours. Of that, I plan on doing 5,000 feet myself - that means I'll have to climb at a rate of about 83 feet (25 metres) per minute!
By comparison, the CN Tower here in Toronto is only 1,815 feet and the Burj Khalifa is only 2,717 feet.

moving house in a couple days... moving sucks
Re: What is new in your little world?
A pretty mean feet obsidian. That 25 metres per minute sounds impossible to maintain. So what's the climb conditions? Internal climb facility or outside in the elements? And, what length of time will you be climbing for as it sounds an impossible task.obsidian wrote:Next Saturday, as part of a fundraiser/speed climbing competition, my team of 4 will be trying to climb over 18,000 vertical feet within 4 hours. Laps in a climbing gym. 4 hour event. I have a team of 4 who will switch out, only one person climbing at a time. So assuming we have about equal time climbing, that leaves us with an hour/person.

Good luck and not that you need it, so my best thoughts for completion being sent your way.

Re: What is new in your little world?
I'm car shopping... I think I might get a 370Z...
Re: What is new in your little world?
Make sure you don't post pictures of it
Re: What is new in your little world?
Heheheh way ahead of you there pal.
Re: What is new in your little world?
Why would you take a 370z if the last car was a gti, esp with those extreme weather conditions you have to endure.
Re: What is new in your little world?
Because it's my dream car. I've even posted here how that's my dream car when giraffhunter posted pics of his old one. Yes it's going to be a challenge in the winter as it's going to be my daily driver but winters here aren't usually too crazy and I am getting winter tires for it. Also, I've heard rumors that this might be the last year I can buy one new as Nissan seems to be mum on producing any more Z cars. Seems like they might be replacing it with a model to be competitive with the BRZ style cars which I'm less interested in.
I have no doubt it'll be an adventure.

Re: What is new in your little world?
If you want to appear really cool, say you're getting the Nismo one
Re: What is new in your little world?
Although I like the styling for the nismo it's hard to find one that isn't automatic with the sport mode paddle shifter which if I'm getting a Z a manual 6 speed is absolutely required. I'm getting the base model, it's surprisingly affordable.18's instead of 19's, same engine and transmission and lighter making it just as quick as the nismo.

Re: What is new in your little world?
Doubt it, everyday use the performance difference would probaly be marginal but the Nismo would have the legs. Engine upgrades + suspension n all that tripe but obv you can do bolt ons to your base modelΚracus wrote: same engine and transmission and lighter making it just as quick as the nismo.
