Well... Trebuchets were invented in the 6th century so they've been used to kill people in pretty much every major war until Canons were invented in the 12th century. So... If you add up all the deaths from those wars you get roughly 50,000,000 deaths before the crusades began. I suspect they were probably still using trebuchets while canons were becoming popular but we'll exclude that.

Point taken but I was thinking of the modern era not historically. I was thinking (in the original post) to add guns but that might set some off
