That screenie (especially the rocks) reminds me of TF2.

Looks like an isolinear quantum slipstream warpcore, held in place with some subspace flux capacitors.
The emergency forcefield generators are powered up just to be sure, if the containment field of the warpcore collapses.
I like the cables, rerouting power without consoles should be a piece of cake (is that why there are no consoles in the screenshots?).

If you look closely, you can even see the motion sensors above the wooden sliding doors.

The consoles are in the room - they are just out of phase with our space time continuum. A 120 nanometer micro burst in the theta band should bring them back into our visual spectrum.

I think it is part of Dr. Frankensteins lab - or a really powerful popcorn maker.

As always - looking good Sock.

Ice cream maker > popcorn maker. I just had to set the record straight. Though why that ice cream maker is shaped like a giant penis is beyond my understanding.

Thanks everyone for your comments on the 'what is it post' but it seems my target audience is Obsidian, so in order to make my product even better is there any special requests, things you would like to see in the map, Obsidian? ... and no I am not adding a medieval popcorn machine! :p On a side note, the first version of the battery I made had four balls, a big pulsating column in the middle and the whole thing lit up like a christmas tree as you progressed through the puzzle!

It's yours doofus hahaha. It's the skybox from industrial. I ended up not using it in favor of something a little easier on the eyes.

And yes I was trying to go for a semi-TF2 style in Warsow. :)

Level looks good btw, maybe I need to take up some § again...

edit: The blue sky would probably give the level a more epic feeling. Try the version from The Crescent level instead, it's the same but is more cartonish, more BF Heroes and TF2 like.

@ WHAT!!

Both seem excellent sky-boxes, but the new one definitely sets the mood better.

Could also be that the first shot is uglier; with the texture tiling, and I don't really dig that building section sticking into the rock wall on the right.

A couple more shots of the back of the first area:

I need to look at the canal water, it's too clean and bright, which makes my little canal bed look orange. The gable-end of the further most building should be a wall texture, I forgot about that.

Looking great everyone!
dictfux: old school piping is swanky. did you miter the 45degree corner trim on the second level floor? it looks too thin.

Crappy light compile, whenever I do the final compile the shadows from the grates along the wall make me happy :)

@ Kaz, have you thought about turning the large brick support into wood too? And maybe have a bit more color in the scene?

@ DK, what samplesize is this, very low? Or is this the default one?

I think I'll stick with the bricks for now, they make the most sense to me at the moment (could change... :)), I'll be adding green-ish accent lights soon, it'll look more colorful whenever I tweak the -gamma -compensate values, they're really washing things out ATM.

edit: or do you mean more with the textures instead of lighting (or both?) ? i have a hard time making things look like they blend and still not be too "samey"
edit2:updated it with some different values

Do you have any insight as to how to create your own skyboxes? I'd love to make some of my own but I'm not sure how to start.

Sometimes I feel like there is this whole repository of mapping information I just somehow missed out on. :(

I've been looking for a better texture for sand, and was hoping to find something TF2 like, but I'm not sure how to get that cartoony "painted" effect that is prevalent throughout TF2 on the sand.

Noway. Basically cause we don't have a single decent skybox in wsw's stock :P

I guess I have some insight, since I am making my own if I need something special =) You can use plenty of ways to create them, I would say the easiest is using terragen. I made mine from reference photos and then blended and painted them together, sometimes I also made a foundation in terragen just to get a good color gradient.
I believe terragen 2 can do wonders, but I have never tried it really, it was so different from the first one and I just didn't feel like learning then...

What is the base, the layout or graphics? If layout - are you making another tech level? =)

I think I have all cloud and sky textures on the whole internet.
However, reason why I make skies is mostly because I can't find what I need or I need something special or different. Also, converting skies between different layouts are pretty bad, a cubemap has a much higher resolution than a simple plane that you wrap around a sphere. Thus converting the latter to the former gives pretty bad results - in my opinion, depends how much of the sky you are gonna see and how dark it is.

Pretty much locked down the interior layout and color palette now, I had to nix the basewall01/basewall03 stock textures, they just didn't have the quality. I replaced them with this green copper texture, booth god and bad, the good is that it actually looks much better and works great with all other colors, the bad is that I couldn't use the stock one that was my intention from the beginning, it's like a failure that I need to use my own texture when the goal was not to.

the base is the layout, but heavily modified. and yup is a tech map :D

to bad about aborting the base texture, but the new copper looks much better... come on beta!

everyone here is really raising the bar, cheers for the extra pressure. this time im gonna do a much better job.

Hipshot,

How did you get such crisp clouds with terragen? I guess I understand that as a base, but there is a lot of variation between what I've seen people do with that compared to what you've done with your skyboxes.

Re: Screenshots

Clouds are not made in terragen, in terragen 1 you can't make clouds like that - Impossible.

What I've done is that I have taken photos and also used photos from other sources then I have masked and blended the clouds into the sky.
