yeah DOF is fun. took a bunch of half-decent pics at the botanical gardens a few weeks back with a 50-200mm

That D40 is a nice little camera - my in-laws have one that I am trying to show them how to use better (they are shooting everything no auto with the ISO way too high and looking grainy). I might show them a few of your images to let them know that they don't need to return the camera (they are learning the hard way that DSLRs aren't designed to work like point and shoots).
The only thing I didn't like about the D40 was having to access some basic stuff through the menu - a bit cumbersome.
You've got some good stuff with it. Are you using kit lenses?

Here is a shot from my first ever attempt at shooting baseball this weekend:
this is pretty much right out of the camera. I need to learn a specific workflow for images like this - I never know what should be done, when the image should be left alone, etc.

i've got the 55mm kit lens, and want to replace it with something better, but in the meantime i'm trying to see just how decent a shot i can get with it so that i can manage my own expectations of an eventual replacement. none of my pictures come straight out of the camera particularly sharp, even stopping down to f/10, and particularly foliage. only by resampling/sharpening can i get something half decent atm

another HDR effort. the foliage is blurred to fuck as there was the slightest whisper of a breeze, but i kinda like the result

This bird has a red eye, and appears to be taking a dump.
FYI the bird is called a Spotted Towhee.

Your squirrel shots and this Bird ............tnf are sweet.
I think ya could have cropped the bird better for more impact.
Thankfully spring has sprung here, and my first shot is sexual.

A 450D with a 17-40L and a speedlite 580EXII on the bridge and the potraits shots.
Btw, they stole all my gear a few months ago...Had a 400D with a 24-70L and a 50mm 1.8...I left the 17-40L at my mate's place so that's the only lens I have atm. Saving up to buy the 24-70 again.

What are cameras like this used for:
Leaf Aptus 22
http://www.globalimaginginc.com/equipme ... ptus.shtml
Not a cheap camera, or is that just a backing thing you put on a regular digital camera?
Wondered because exif data shows that images using are taken with a leaf camera.

all types of images but mostly portraits, modeling shots, product shots etc.
there's a whole market for high-end film based cameras with digital backs, see;
