Anyone else find it worrisome that the most impactful backlash Drumpf has faced for his part in the insurrection that took place today was that his Twitter and Facebook accounts were suspended for a day?

I have a question about the US president pardoning people. Trump has pardoned a few rather controversial people, but he's not the first to do this.

Why is this even allowed? These pardons to straight against the idea of the separation of powers. It's unfathomable that something similar would happen here. Why does everyone seem to be ok with the idea of the president being able to just pardon anyone, no matter what the crime?

He shouldn't be able to. And a lot of the founding fathers thought so, too.

Also it's limited to federal crimes, not state crimes.

I asked this in this thread a little while back and no real answers. For the rest of the world it seems so bizarre for anyone to completely circumvent the justice system. I can only conclude that it doesn’t make sense to most sensible Americans either since it seems mostly used by a president and his buddies to cover each other’s asses.

I don't think it's bizarre.

It's simply shows that the US is one "shithole country"/"banana republic" among many others.

(My full answer would be more balanced and especially include a critique of the colonialist perspective implicit in using such a frame of reference, but for the sake of brevity, I'll leave it as is.)

He was probably there, waving thin blue line flags while riding his harley up and down pennsylvania avenue at a safe distance.

Admitting you supported the worst president of all time is a tough pill to swallow. Admitting it after you've been made aware of that fact for the previous 4 years is near impossible. Ripping that part of his ego away from his own psyche is like asking someone to bite off one of their own fingers. I wonder if he feels at all partly responsible for that woman's death.

While a pardon is a get out of jail free card, it's not for the people surrounding the pardonnee. A pardonned person loses their right to plea the fifth, ie the right to not testify, therefore opening up all kinds of legal ways of getting to other alleged criminals.
In case of Trump pardonning the likes of Manafort and Stone is a short sighted move and may very well complicate things for him.

What a shitshow...
Words can't grasp the whole impact of the things having happened during those last two or three days.

People all around the world should learn from that incident and educate themselves, really.

There's very little to learn, people have been harping about this outcome for years now. The real problem is that this might just be the start.

Yeah, it's like learning what happens when you smash your thumb with a hammer. If you need an example to know the outcome I'm not sure what to tell ya.

So Drumpf got banned from Twitter earlier today, and he immediately tried getting around it by posting on his campaign and WH accounts, but Twitter smacked him down.

https://www.engadget.com/trump-banned-f ... 24093.html
In the deleted tweets, Drumpf complained about the treatment he’s receiving, and claimed he is negotiating with “various other sites” while also looking at building his own platform “in the near future.” The accounts also proclaimed “We will not be SILENCED!” before they were shut down.
This has been a long time coming, and it's as satisfying as I knew it would be. Fucking owned. :olo:

Aside from the whole sedition thing....

thing i don't get about people being banned from platforms for "inciting violence" is that i'm pretty sure that incitement to violence isn't protected speech in the US, i.e. it's a crime. does this mean they'll be prosecuted?

totally unrelated question that has nothing whatsoever to do with this issue: remember when used to think corporations were a bane on the planet and had way too much power. good times <3

They banned Trump and gimped parler becuz there is significant chatter on them about future attacks on the Capitol. The MAGA morons are trying to organize attacks on January 17th, 19th and of course inauguration day. We have a large portion of the population that have been radicalized by a fucked in the head president, social media and out of control propaganda machines...

I hope the dc police are prepared with live ammunition the next time... Snipers on the roofs and kill zones established...
