Monday morning at 0700 Tony Horton is coming to the base gym to give a large group P90X workout, and undoubtedly try to sell his stuff. I'm gonna go and see what it's all about just so that when someone asks me about P90X, I can give them an answer based on [slight] experience. also i want to tear that shit up like no one has ever seen hehe

lol that's cool. dude is probably like 50 years old, keep that in mind when you see him go.
Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
The guy is a machine. I wonder if he will do one of the easier workouts or make up a unique one to show the whole group a few exercises from each component of the whole program. Let us know what he shows you Andy - you will probably find the whole group thing a pretty easy workout.
Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
7 years of army group pt was easy... but we had to do it all N'Sync. I just hope it doesn't run too long... it starts at 7am but i don't want to be at work later than 8am... probably have to ditch at 745 but it would still be cool to meet the guy.tnf wrote:The guy is a machine. Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
So, 7am came and went, I stayed in bed because I barely got any sleep last night so n workout with Tony Horton. Then at lunch he came by where I work for a meet and greet and to get autographed pictures and that is when I workout, so skipped that one too. Did my 3.4 mile run barefoot in 22:19. That was my first true barefoot run and it was great, I felt liked I weighed nothing and the best part was that no matter how much faster I ran I didn't get out of breath... it was odd. Running barefoot is awesome despite the large blisters on my left and right foot (balls of the feet, tips of some toes). I'll do it again once I heal up.

Do people ever blow out rotator cuffs on those things or do they work into the exercises very slowly?andyman wrote:holding a scaled back lever... i figure i'll have a full in a few weeks

Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
If you don't keep active shoulders or let your shoulders just drop then yes, you will probably jack something up but it helps to loosen up a little before hand. I seem to have fairly flexible shoulders and can get on there and do full range skin-the-cats cold. Generally, people would either fall or let go or what have you before they attempted anything outside their range of motion or strength limits. If you're just starting you need to do progressions with a spotter though. Keep in mind that I've been toying with these moves on and off for the last year or so at home too.
But to answer your question, you have to work into these slowly. Become very proficient at each progression until you start moving to the next step. For me, I'll keep holding in that position as long as a can (also with the front lever) and when I think I can hold it with mild difficulty, Ill start slowwwwly putting my feet out for more difficulty. That isn't the best picture for form though... when you're doing any holds on the rings you have to stay tight head to toe. yes, that means pointing your toes....

Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
Busted up the right thumb today... was doing overhead squats and finished my last set, dropped the bar to the ground and stupidly didn't let go...when it hit the ground it simultaneously shook my grip and bounced up straight into my thumb. Haven't gotten it xrayed yet but it's got all the signs of being broken. Oh well... it hurt for a bit, then swelled and numbed up, had it in a splint and on ice since lunch and can still workout with it so thats good.

some pictures from today... that's a 53lb kettlebell and a 38lb vest.. you do the math. shit got heavy. and the damn vest wouldn't let my shoulder extend to where it needed to be, but it was all good.

If the envelope isn't being pushed, there's no point. Trust me, I'm nowhere near the 'there' that I could be. Thanks thoughplained wrote:dont take it to far ey

I can do those muscle ups with the vest too... it's ridiculously hard though.

Re: Well hell may be freezing over (workout)
nice stuff man - i remember doing dips on the O rings - they're a very different type of workout than doing regular weighted dips (which btw I just did 4 reps of with 95lb + belt).

Tomorrow is the Florida Central Ragnar Relay Race, I'm on a team with my buds from my last unit. It's a 201 mile relay run, should be fun. I'm taking 4 legs, around 20 miles total.

I'll be taking pictures and stuff. Here's a recent picture after a somewhat long workout... got my hair cut
