That's not at all like saying that because I'm pointing out the one group that people use to generate the stereotype.YourGrandpa wrote:It just depends on the person. That's like saying all Jews are cheap, etc. Stereotypes....tnf wrote:Gramps then you'd agree with me that the jackasses who brag about how secure their house is because they own all sorts of guns give responsible owners a bad image among a lot of people, no?
I rely on door locks and a monitored security system.
What I've just said is like saying "cheap jews give all jews a bad name" - not like saying "all jews are cheap."

Re: So I bought a new shotgun...
I think you've misunderstood my point.
Assuming someone is a jackass when they brag about how their house is secure because they own all sorts of guns is like assuming a Jewish person is cheap because he's Jewish. No?
What I'm saying is, all people are different.

I would suggest that a person who brags that owning a bunch of guns makes their house more secure is a jackass. No assumption needed.YourGrandpa wrote:I think you've misunderstood my point.

I don't understand. Lots of people have pool tables. Not sure how good it would be for home defense, other than barricading the door against invading zombie hordes.losCHUNK wrote:
whatever your excuse for owning this is, its not good enough

And we get to the heart of the gun debate IMO. Some people just like having and shooting these things. Other people put it into the context of need or purpose for ownership. Mix a little of one, and a little of two, and you get people talking past one another.
What we really need to solve this problem is some way to rid the world of small penises

My 500 rounds of FMJ .308 ammo just arrived. I'm going to the range this weekend to give this beast a whirl.

WOW... I went to the range today and shot my .308. That thing is a monster. After getting the gas valve adjusted and the gun sighted in, the fun began. I was able to peg my target a 50 yards with no problem using the iron sights. I have to say that the power and the sound of a .308 is just awesome.
Good times.

that's just plain ridiculous, gwamps.YourGrandpa wrote:In reality, your camera is just as likely to kill someone as my rifle.
You fail to see that your hobby is antisocial in the respect that it would be dangerous if not deadly to share with your family. Though lord knows, some of those deep south crackers have learned that one the hard way, just recently.
You mean to tell me that you can't find a substitute interest that is both loud and not potentially deadly were you to get your kid involved? How about working on a hot rod or something?

3RD KILLING SPREE IN SOUTHERN U.S. THIS MONTH
Yesterday's nursing home killing spree in North Carolina was the third major rampage in the southeastern United States in less than a month. In the two earlier cases, the killer commited suicide.
On March 10, a 28-year-old man in Alabama killed 10 people, including his mother, in a shooting spree that ended when he took his own life. The wife and child of a sheriff's deputy were among those killed in the rampage that took place in two small towns.
On March 15, a middle-aged man in Miami crashed a party in a Cuban neighbourhood, shot and killed his wife and three other people, returned to his house, set it on fire, then killed h

Re: So I bought a new shotgun...
First of all, it's not ridiculous. Guns, used responsibly are no more dangerous than a camera. If I chose to, I could easily beat someone to death with a camera. But the way I use my guns is not much different than the way someone would use a camera. I go to a range and shoot targets while they go out and shoot pictures. No harm done. I don’t go, nor do I plan to go hunting. I’m not into killing things or using my weapons in an uncontrolled environment. I simply like to shoot them and become proficient with there use.Underpants? wrote:that's just plain ridiculous, gwamps.YourGrandpa wrote:In reality, your camera is just as likely to kill someone as my rifle.

The collecting and use guns are not antisocial in respect to my family. My wife and I go shooting just as often as my friends and I do. My son has also been educated about guns and gun safety. Not everything I do has to involve the entire family. As a family, we do many things together and when my son is old enough I’ll take him to the range.
