I hate the head banging avatar which someone uses.
I've seen the same avatar at other forums and they are larger than his in size.

a13n: You need to post it four times to get your point across? I've seen your avatar on several forums to, all different in size. Do you consider that a valid opinion as to why you don't like a site? Isn't that a bit shortsighted? A simple: "Dude, you suck" would have been sufficient.
Megaman44: I don't know what Twisted has done in the past but no matter where I go, people seem to dislike him. Must be pretty bad then. But I can't ban someone for not being liked!
Bad thread titles are unavoidable and a nuisance seen at almost every forum. Same goes for the "hey that rocks" comment. But you already confirmed that.
I hope, in the future, we will be able to provide you with valuable information. Other then that, I can't really comment. Besides the noob thing, that's something seen everywhere else too. Most people don't seem capable of finding a search button or using Google.
I never had the privelige of working with "func" indepth. Apparently it's great

Heh. Neodymium/Twisted is somewhat infamous for a relatively high-profile freakout/meltdown that happened here at Q3W. He was relatively new to here (and, I think, to the level-editing scene), and ended up in a brawl with ydnar and various others that resulted in a gigantic explosion of !!!!!!! and CAPS and other retardation and horsecockery and was subsequently banned from here (which is pretty rare--you really do have to work at it).
To his credit, he seems to have chilled out since then. He's obviously a smart guy, and he seems to have toned down the arrogance and attitude a hell of a lot since then and is generally helpful to people now, from what I've seen.
Infernis wrote:Most people don't seem capable of finding a search button or using Google.
Most people on forums are kinda dumb, as are most people. Period. The only forums I've seen that deal with this in an effective (or at least satisfying) way, are the Something Awful forums, where people are placed on probation (prevented from posting) for a time, if a mod thinks they've done something stupid enough to warrent it, or eventually banned if it keeps up.
Infernis wrote:I never had the privelige of working with "func" indepth. Apparently it's great

Func is kinda...hmm...hard to classify. It's more oriented around older Quake editing (Q1, Q2), although that's shifted a bit in recent years, and has much less of a public forum "feel" to it, and seems a bit more like a bunch of guys who regularly hang out and bullshit about level design.
Edit: The site is glitchy right now--I just hit "submit" on this and got an error message, but it went through okay...

While he has toned down and is less prone to "meltdowns" he is still pretty hard headed from what I've seen. He still likes to cry "bug" at the Splash Damage Q3Map2 forum, and when people tell him it's not a bug - he's just using the feature incorrectly, he ignores you and continues to cry bug. Annoying, but you Infernis is right that you can't simply ban someone for that. Someone else here, who I won't mention had a flare up with him again on another forum.
I think a13n's multiple posts has to do with impatience and hitting the post button 3 times too many. I'll be deleting a few.
Edit: pjw's right... something strange is going on with the forums. I just double posted too. I know gamespy's been doing something to the servers lately.

Same here, also the site has been unavailable for a couple of hours over the last 2 days. Atleast for me it was. I got an message from gamespy. Don't remember exactly what though.

If I recall correctly, the message was something like
"IGN troopers engaging"
Not sure though.

What did you decide? What about the whole contest? Maybe you should write some news about it at leveldesign.nl?
I'm just asking informative in purpose of writing news for polish mappers site.

Were waiting for Foo his map. Since this thread is more about LD then Geocomp, I decided to make a seperate thread to criticsize Ld
here. As soon as Foo submits his map then Geocomp results will be announced in this one. No need to spam you all!

Word. I'm still on target for delivering it monday. We just did the final round of playtesting and finalised the structure and item placement.
Tech promode 1v1. In terms of the competition, I didn't have time to pull off the main design idea I had with the map, so sadly it's lacking the flair I wanted to put on it. However, within 10 textures.

Lol final compile running now, midnight on monday.
Worked literally 24h for 3 days on it, and I'm beat.

I think it's pretty damned cool foo, original and non-nunuky, which, as whoever said above, is a good thing. Purple-y and tight, I like it.

Indeed, very nice! One of the obvious things that could look better is the floor trim (looks a bit odd, when you pay attention to it). Some areas look quite much alike, which makes it a bit hard to learn the layout.
I'd like to play this.

Cruising the entire map at high speed won't be easy though, i'm afraid.

Very nice, Foo. Clean look and good layout. The stairs are a nice touch!

I meant in cpma. Probably a bit too many stairs/obstacles to cruise the map without being obstructed.

I was cruising around on it pretty well the first time I played. My only complaint is that you hit your head on some of the low doorways/overhangs. But the rest of the map seems quite fast.

Ok, I was bored just now and tried if i might be entertained by leveldesign.nl. I am not.
for one, the splash page is annoying. yes, i call it a splashpage, because it fulfills no funtion to me, other than to confuse me. i always have to click on that TINY 'forums' link anyways, even when i check out one of the threads i tend to press my back button and then search for the link to the main view.
Also, i just dont like the forum structure. not a single thread on the first page of general discussion that i felt the urge to click on – not even to scan the post. q3 editing feels similar - i just know most of the stuff already, why would i read such a forum?
WIP forum is remotely interesting, but most of the maps i have seen elsewhere anyways.
What i really miss, is a 'general discussion quake3/4 doom3 mapping' subforum – just like what q3w is.
Why make the hosted mod forum so important and place it almost at the top ?!
Visually the forum feels so cramped (to me anyways), because you always have the almost useless main menu on the left. im only on 1024-res, so there's not enough space for the titles.
Why do all forums have that awful last post column? i NEVER use it. whats the purpose? when i click on the name, i get to the profile. thank you, wtf. when would i need this, looking at a profile without even knowing what the guy wrote. Also im not exactly interested in the exact time the last post was made - just that it's halfway recent. a thread starter would know the number of posts anyways. iso date (YYYY-MM-DD) would be way better.
even the hits column is pretty much useless to other people then the threadstarter. at least i never use it, because the numbers are way too slow to parse. now if it were post ratios and graphic bars that dont catch your attention too much…
edit: claryfication

I'd had to register to post there, so either they're interested enough to check this thread or someone points 'em to my post.
Twisted in that thread wrote:We're a friendly mapping site. None of the flaming, op warz, etc. of q3w.
Right. This must be how you get people attracted to your forum.

I wasn't saying you should remove it – just that this is a good example why I think some of us here don't hang out at leveldesign.nl.
I'm still trying to help

I know and I appreciate it. Me and Foo are discussing a lot of stuff for the new site. Keeping in mind all the criticism we've got, including yours. Even though it lacks some tact, you certainly get your point across
In other words, we'll be so good that we'll draw people like a magnet :icon25:
Or we'll simply ban Twisted
