I'm not one of those naive old teachers that has no idea what kids are up to these days, but good god its disturbing to see some of the shit 14 and 15 year old girls (who apparently, according to myspace are now 18) are putting up there. Kids have always tried to act wordly and wise and put up a bit of a front when out in public, but never have I seen them trying so hard to fit in as they are with their profiles (their predictable responses about drinking, drugs, sex, tru luv, yadda yadda yadda).

When you get to see how naive these kids are on a daily basis, and how not naive they are trying to portray themselves on myspace, and then the predatory 20somethings in their friends list leaving messages about hooking up sometime when they are in town it concerns me.

And then the guys. If I see one more wallpaper of corona bottles or cans of chew...or marijuana leaves...or porn stars. And the poor kids have people like Jenna Jameson in their friends list, and I know in their warped senses of reality they really think that she's really going to be their personal 'friend.' They've got these pics with their shirts completely off, pants halfway down, trying to flex their 6 pack and massive 120 lb frame.

I know that most of it will end up being harmless, but I'm seriously disturbed with some of the shit I saw on there from my freshmen students, guys and girls. Some definite pedo target material.
