Survivor is great... Its actually his first book.
Beautiful monsters should be the next one in line to be made into a film afaik.
I highly recommend his newest book, Haunted.
its a bunch of short stories woven through a larger story... I say its one of his best of all.

It's a skewed book on political philosphy that makes no sense at all.

from a psychological point of view i'd imagine it to be quite interesting, as a piece of literature i'd imagine it to be badly written trash

It's really not even that interesting from a psychological point of view. It's basically "all jews are fat sexual predators" "all good things come from the Aryan race", etc etc. I suppose it gives some insight into the man's insecurities but beyond that there's really not much there.

Granted I've also never read the whole thing, just various excerpts for certain classes here and there.

Heh...I do the same thing every time I am at borders...looking around to see who is prominently displaying the title of their book, guys with "Advanced Gravitational Theory" or whatever...seen some guys that do a lot of coughing, etc, to draw attention to themselves.

I just finished The Da Vinci Code, which I persevered through only because I thought I should know what all the fuss was about. It was complete shit and I'm sorry I wasted the three hours to plow through it.

Currently I'm between the covers on The Great Gatsby, as well as Cry The Beloved Country (by Alan Paton). As it happens, those books have two of the very best endings in the history of English literature.

I've been reading some horror short stories online to kill some time here and there lately.

My only problem is that every time I've bought a horror/ghost novel I'm always really disapointed because they're never written well, are not scary, and seem to be pointed at a middle school aged audience.

Anyone have any suggestions for books that are scary?
No Stephen King suggestions please, I read Pet Cemetary a few years ago and it was trash. I told myself I'd never waste anymore time and money on him after that.

A friend suggested H.P. Lovecraft, which I may look into.

"The Relic" by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. It's the only book that's ever actually scared me -- although that was in grade 10 or 11, but it's still worth a shot.

They also wrote "Thunderhead" and "Riptide" together, both of which are decent thrillers.

A good collection of short stories is Clive Barker's "Books of Blood"...I think there's a single edition out now for about $10 which contains all 3 volumes. Scary? I'm not sure I'd use that word.....unsettling, disturbing----> you betcha.

some of those star wars books are pretty fun... they're like fast food - tastes good, but only in small quantities. i get them as audiobooks for road trips where i don't want anything too interesting to distract from driving etc but with enough intrigue to keep me awake ^o^

edit: and some (most) of them are total shit.

1) My opinion is that its a good book, you cant tell me i cant have an opinion

2) Im not goth, then again like most things you post, you just happen to be jumping on the bandwagon and trying to look cool trolling peoples posts

3) It wouldnt matter WHAT book i was reading currently, you somehow would find a way to make fun of it. Even assuming it was a widly accepted novel, you STILL would try to say something about it..
