WD Passport 120 GB
I put about 90mb of MP3s on my dads new passport drive and plugged it in. I was amazed to find that it not only worked but navigated very fast. I'll be getting one for Xmas and loading the thing full of MP3s
I'm hoping it will perform well with a few thousand MP3s on there
:icon30:
dude, that's awesome... thanks for the tip
Now i gotta ge me one. :icon14:
i'd given up on looking for one that works after i tried a micro-drive 1.5" joint that would spin up but not read; i figured there wasn't enough power to do anything but flash media.
so far i love the unit... i was shocked when i replaced the shit-box JVC that the previous owner put in. I thought the shit sound quality was mostly due to the factory speakers, but the kenwood sounds 10x better.
My only beef is that putting pause on the button under the control stick is a bit anoying; pausing while driving if i hit a bump i end up skipping tracks, folders, etc...
caveat; (i ran my cable into my glovebox, that way its all nice and stealth.)

Mine is unnoticeable as well, just under the radio slot. I'll be getting the drive when I return from my Trip. Expect more details around new years day on how it performs with a buttload of MP3 files crammed on the drive.

Damn. I was hoping it wasn't that one. I think I might score an Alpine unit with a usb input module.Dr_Watson wrote:no it doesn't... he's just too lazy to scroll back and read that GH got the same Kenwood KDC-MP532U that i did.+JuggerNaut+ wrote:bump. bitwise's question needs answering.

Looks awful. Very limited screen. "bass, treble, and midrange controls" instead of an equalizer. Giant remote. "CD frequency response: 10-20,000 Hz". Single din.
This is the one I like right now, but whether I buy it is a whole other story. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-XOVoBlA5qF ... ay=Pioneer
I'm so torn between getting robbed and putting up with shit quality.
I'm 6'6". To drive any car I have to put the seat all the way back and lean the seat back. This means that I have to lean a bit forward and take my eyes off the road to adjust anything. With a remote I just grab it, feel out the buttons, and push what I need. This is especially nice when selecting one MP3 out of several thousand.Dr_Watson wrote:remote?? ....
oh, yeah that thing i tossed in a drawer after laughing about how idiotic having a remote for a car stereo is.
With many remotes (including kenwood, atleast on the excelon models) you can directly type in a radio station frequency. Also, with DVD player models there isn't room for all the buttons you might need on the face of the player. After my JVC remote was stolen, listening music dvds became a huge pain.

the height comment is pretty B.S... one of my friend's is 6'10" and he has no problems reaching his radio. He also doesn't have the problems fitting into cars you seem to. so you must be too much of a fatty to lean forward 2-6"? or do you ghetto lean your seat so far back that all people can see through your side window is a chav-hat cocked a quarter sideways?
also i'm slightly confused as to how the need to produce sound below or above the range of human hearing, or the single din size makes a head unit shit quality?
or do you require a 6" LCD screen so you can play WOW in the Wendy's drive through?

[size=75][i]I once had a glass of milk.
It curdled, and then I couldn't drink it. So I mixed it with some water, and it was alright again.
I am now sick.

Nah, the screen is for clarity and ease of use. The double-din is because my stock unit is double-din. These are simply two reasons I don't want that kenwood, not why it sucks.Dr_Watson wrote:the height comment is pretty B.S... one of my friend's is 6'10" and he has no problems reaching his radio. I have no problem leaning forward. It's just more convenient to use the remote.

Heads up the WD Passport 120gig works great with the Kenwood.
I put 42 gigs worth of music
8018 Files in 323 Folders
The drive navigates smooth and as fast as a 1 gig stick. It also rantomizes with no delay.
There was on performance issue. It takes about 20 seconds to read the drive upon turning on the car. After that it functions as fast as a small USB stick.
It's also still small enough to tote in your pocket and slightly larger than a bare laptop drive and looks damn sexy as well.
