Beyond that, XP suites me just fine. I remember back when XP came out and I was running Win98, the difference was like night and day when it came down to stability and speed. It truly was (coming from Win98, not Win2000) a good upgrade.
So I'll be sticking with XP until I'm forced to upgrade.
was a bit more ambiguous coming from 2000.
i held off on xp until i got a hyperthreaded processor, which forced me to upgrade since xp was the only OS supporting logical processors.
my lady's pc however is still running 2000, and has had no problems for ~5 years.
booker wrote:$399 for Vista Ultimate? WTF? OS X is only $130.
And, if you felt like it, you could install that on as many computers as you like
The thing is, you can't buy a Mac without OS X.
Plus, there will probably be no replacement for Vista for 3-5 years, while OS X is updated every year, so the cost over the same period is 3 or 5x $130.

i definitely saw the jump going from Windows ME to XP :icon32:
The only thing I found which was good was how it picked up and allowed the 360 access without me doing anything. Bit of a pain in the arse with XP to set up.
The reason for the free trial? Shitloads of non-genuine Windows copies floating around.
Acknowledging that potential customers may be tempted to "try the new products first before they make the decision to buy" through the use of pirated software, Microsoft has posted an online "test drive" of Windows Vista, which joins an existing Web-based preview of Office 2007.
The Vista test drive, which requires Internet Explorer 6 or 7 and runs the operating system in a small Active X based virtual machine, lets visitors explore various new features of the forthcoming operating system, and guides them through common tasks. Meanwhile, a 60-day trial download of Office 2007 is also available.

You can also make the desktop look like XP...
who in their right mind would want that
Some people will want it to look like XP or 2K simply because they hate change. Personally, I enjoy Aero because it uses some of the horsepower of my video card. I spent money on the card, so why not make use of it.

I suppose only time will tell how it'll do in the enterprise.
With 1,500 new policies it'll do great...just like 2K and XP both did when they extended the control for centralized administration.
Massive Quasars wrote:Do all Apple laptops run slower on Windows compared to OS X? One would assume they do.
The question doesn't make sense. To be pedantic, the operating system runs on the hardware, not vice versa.
But that's an important distinction, because how do you measure the speed of one operating system against another one?
Anyway, for some context: Why would you assume that an apple machine would run XP slowly? The apple PCs that run windows are x86-architecture processors, which means that they're the same as any other Pc that runs windows. Windows is not being emulated or coerced into running on the apple machines... it's running natively at full speed.
In short, no. Apple's machines are well specced for windows XP and run it capably.
its just childish to cling to the age-old fact that "Macs are bad". Microsoft is on a one-way trip to hell, lined with grey, "stylish", minimalistic apples. Time to face it, PCs need to seriously do something extreme or cut a deal with Apple or something.
My buddy that works @ Diebold says he loves Vista. Did some admin training on dual core laptops w/ 2 GB RAM and it ran like a dream. Of course that was before anti-virus and firewall and all the other shit.
ah, the lifeblood of Windows: Bogging down your system with Anti-Virus software. Alternatively, you can buy a Mac, install Vista on it, then never worry about virusses. Oh wait, its the SYSTEM thats shit, not the computer.
Nevertheless, ive got both Vista and a late Beta of 10.5 and they both run damn fine without a hitch.
fun stuff. so Vista has alt-tab like we all come to love, now with mouse support (liks osx has). cool
Also, it has winkey-tab, which is *exactly* the same but in 3d. IM SO HAPPY THEY ADDED THAT !
either replace the old one or ditch the new one. dont add an exact copy of a function and give it a different name, then act like its hot shit
