was a bit more ambiguous coming from 2000.
i held off on xp until i got a hyperthreaded processor, which forced me to upgrade since xp was the only OS supporting logical processors.
my lady's pc however is still running 2000, and has had no problems for ~5 years.

Plus, there will probably be no replacement for Vista for 3-5 years, while OS X is updated every year, so the cost over the same period is 3 or 5x $130.

it's funny to see you people saying you're not going to upgrade when you all know you'll have to ina year or so.

it's not that bad, as will any rollout there's a few details to sort but on a whole it's OK. just, a little to busy at times...

I probably won't jump ship until my work does as well. I've played around with RC1 and RC2, I wasn't really impressed.

I suppose only time will tell how it'll do in the enterprise.

The day I have to upgrade from XP to get anything to "work" is the day I go back to macs. FULL STOP MATE

The only thing I found which was good was how it picked up and allowed the 360 access without me doing anything. Bit of a pain in the arse with XP to set up.

Future link up gaming should be quite promising.

It seems to me that XP actually runs faster on mine than OS X; but I use XP a lot more, so it's difficult to make a real assessment.

Some people will want it to look like XP or 2K simply because they hate change. Personally, I enjoy Aero because it uses some of the horsepower of my video card. I spent money on the card, so why not make use of it.

The question doesn't make sense. To be pedantic, the operating system runs on the hardware, not vice versa.

But that's an important distinction, because how do you measure the speed of one operating system against another one?

Anyway, for some context: Why would you assume that an apple machine would run XP slowly? The apple PCs that run windows are x86-architecture processors, which means that they're the same as any other Pc that runs windows. Windows is not being emulated or coerced into running on the apple machines... it's running natively at full speed.

In short, no. Apple's machines are well specced for windows XP and run it capably.

its just childish to cling to the age-old fact that "Macs are bad". Microsoft is on a one-way trip to hell, lined with grey, "stylish", minimalistic apples. Time to face it, PCs need to seriously do something extreme or cut a deal with Apple or something.

Got my Vista Business disc today from that Power of Together campaign. Probably install it this weekend.

My buddy that works @ Diebold says he loves Vista. Did some admin training on dual core laptops w/ 2 GB RAM and it ran like a dream. Of course that was before anti-virus and firewall and all the other shit.
