Is Eternal Sonata any good? I played the demo from XBL and thought it looked good and had promise, but was put off by the kiddie nature of it. Why can't the Japanese make RPGs with 30-year-old protagonists?

The presentation is very childish but it is an absolutely amazing game. The graphics, most specifically the colors, and breath-taking. The city of Ritardando (LOL I know right?) is the most vibrant, beautiful, breath-taking city I have ever seen in a video game. I literally sat there in awe of my plasma TV for like 15 minutes. The dialog is translated extremely well and flows naturally (although, during actual gameplay the characters have several phrases they repeat which gets annoying). The music is just as beautiful as the graphics and always matches where you're at in the game. The gameplay is really cool and puts a very creative new spin on turn-based RPGs. Its got the same item/party/consumable system you'd expect for an RPG. Level ups auto-increase stats and auto-learn new spells every so often (however, you must select a set number of light and dark spells to be active at one time).
The story, IMO, is amazing. It has an excellent amount of detail about the setting and the character development (at least for the main characters) seems to move along nicely. There's nothing really ground-breaking or original about it. Its just a really well told story about some characters struggling with adversity. When combined with everything I mentioned above, it actually feels more like you're playing a feature length anime than a game (all dialog takes place in cut-screens, nothing is typed out). My roommate is an action/gore/shooter kind of guy and finds the story completely boring and off-putting. For example, it starts off panning around the starting area with roughly 20 minutes of introduction monologue. I think a guy like you would enjoy it as much as me though because it really pulls you into the story and the characters.
The only reason I didn't already beat it is because I'm still very much obsessed with WoW and I got stuck on a maze puzzle about 4 hours in that annoyed me a bit.
The city is blurry because it's focused on her for dialog but this is the only shot I can find of the city.

so i tried that Eternal Sonata demo. its pretty fun, but something tells me the battlesystem will grow stale quite fast?
also, there were only like 3 types of enemies. obviously its a demo but it didnt quite feel as dynamic as it could be.

some really dumb ones in there.
"Play through a career on the Hard or Expert difficulty using a standard controller"
"Beat one of the creators of Guitar Hero 3 at their own game"

I would not even want to touch the controller of a friend's 360 if I knew they owned this game.

I'm a little over half way through export in GH3. Pretty amazing game. Fucking destroys the first three games. Neversoft did an amazing job recreating the game.

It gets more complex as you progress but at the end of the battle its still just turn based button mashing. The challenge is being fast and efficient. They do tend to place very few types of enemies in a single area but what I usually do is just run around them. If I come upon a boss I can't beat I'll go grind out more levels but so far that hasn't been the case because I still have plenty of unavoidable battles.

Yep, got it last night myself.
Only been playing Hard, unlocked Paint It Black last night, and went to bed.
Fucking great job Neversoft.
The Wii version is awesome -- 10 or 20 bucks cheaper, and there's rumble in the guitar, as well as the missed note sounds coming from the guitar itself.
Now sell some extra guitars, please.

It's good so far. I thought the first tier of songs was 100% pure shit though.

Yea. I noticed that this game has too many songs that flat out suck shit. Not only are they boring songs but they're boring to play.

One of the little scenes shows the band getting upset at accusations that they've sold out. That's fine, except that Activision clearly sold Guitar Hero out in every way it could. The story is rather hypocritical. Ads are fed into the game, an entire stage was sold to Pontiac, and there is even an Axe Body Spray guitar. Sponsorships are nothing new in the Guitar Hero franchise, but in the past they were kept strictly to music related brands. These are the sort of ads that don't bring anything to the game and really have no place. Not cool. Not cool at all.
lol?
also, it says the animations are indeed as stale as the demo showed us. boo neversoft

The ads aren't in my way. /shrug. Animations? Only thing I see is the fretboard sliding down. Stale, yeah, but necessary. If you're talking about the characters... lol?
Songs that suck... yep, they're in there. Quite a few I've never heard before, too. A lot of incredibly fun ones, though.
Also someone above mentioned it seemed easier to hit notes than gh2. I thought that too until I realized I'm playing on medium and was into expert on gh2. Of course it's easier.

The HOPO system not only has a larger window for hitting the note without strumming but it also has a larger window for hitting the note while strumming too. The biggest problem I had in the past was double hitting HOPOs that were tossed into fast solos between strums, so I find this game much easier.

Does the Wii version have any significant advantages over the XBox 360 version or vice versa?

Everything I'd read said that the Wii was going to have online play. I haven't tried it or messed with it yet -- does it not?
