Damn, when I saw this thread was bumped I thought about it again and was going to post something along the lines of "You know, looking back at this now, I'll bet this black guy gets the book thrown at him."

I didn't think the whole case would be over and decided already. =\

That article is kinda sad.

So the whole thing started when a gang of white guidos were drunk, and one of them made up a story about the black kid wanting to rape a girl at the party. The kid denied it, but left the party anyway, since he could see the direction things were going.

he guido, instead of just letting the kid leave and being happy he was able to get rid of him, decides to follow him home, and call him on the cellphone to repeatedly threaten him and tell him he was on his way to his house with all his friends -- knowing the whole time that he had just made up the story abut the rape threat.

They show up drunk - too drunk to drive - yelling racial slurs in this guy's front yard. The dad comes out with a pistol and starts telling them to get the hell off his lawn. Either the gun went off accidentally like he says, or he shot the kid intentionally. I'm not sure if there is really any way to know that for sure - the testimonies of the people involved aren't objective. I would think he would be given the innocent until proven guilty benefit of a doubt. Besides, if you've got more than one guy in your yard yelling threats and racist remarks at your house, you would be stupid to go out there with just your bare hands. It sounds like there were several of these guys, so who can really blame him for carrying his pistol outside?


So to read a statement like this from the mother:
"My son is finally vindicated," Joanne Cicciaro, the victim's mother, said afterward. "The truth prevailed. ... It was never about race. It was about individuals and individuals' actions."

is just ridiculous. It's kinda sad.

I thought you were allowed to shoot trespassers in America? Or is that only if they make a threat towards you or something? Personally I would consider a gang of drunk fucks screaming at me and/or my son a pretty significant threat.

· In fifteen states, black women are incarcerated at rates between ten and thirty-five times greater than those of white women.

Another thing this highlights is the fact that the northeastern US isn't anywhere near the racism-free utopia it purports itself to be.

Of course not. I've met hiring managers from all over the country who go through resumes and immediately throw out the ones with obviously black-sounding names.

Racism is being addressed through cheap legislative tricks and not socially by people themselves.

I find the racism part partially true. Where I live atleast, the races are all pretty diverse and equal in population count, so all the kids go to the schools with the kids of other races. In theory, the kids are more tolerable of other races, so you don't see alot of hate crimes. Ofcourse, there are some bad apples too though. It's not racism free by any means, but it's not as bad as it could be imo.
