sure can, but that takes alot more work and innovation from a developers point of view. So regurgitating a set plot from true events will assure solid plot/ reason, and direction... the best way to do it is to base it on true events.
Plus there is something to be said as a gamer when you feel like you're taking part of a true to life event...the landing in normandy for instance creates a significant ambiance because it was such a great historical event.
killing a bunch of nazis instead a bunch of made up badies for instance has a certain unf to it.
etc.

that's how you know you're a gamer... when you played a game and think you actually partook in history

While we're on this tangent, I have a question for our resident Persian.
How was the BF2142 gameplay as the community started to get on in age?

The gameplay was good, but I never bothered with what the community filled with 12-yr old spackers had to say. Even two years later, it's still a solid game. Unfortunately the player base and servers have greatly diminished in the past year. I haven't touched it in over a month due to EA's increased server instability.

I like the game. Got it after trading in a bunch of crap I never play anymore. But I like WW2 games in general because I find the historical aspects interesting when they are based off of real battles and the game attempts to recreate the general sense/strategies of the battles. I'm a war nerd though - while playing CoD's and other ww2 based games I usually read up on the battles from the game before or after playing them to see how many parallels there were. CoD3, as I recall, re-created some of the battles pretty well as far as the units involved, the battlefield strategies, who did what, etc.
I just wish the guns in WaW were better..but its WW2.

btw not only does fov revert back to default after a new map, it also reverts back after u die on servers with killcams.
to fix this:
bind W "+forward;cg_fov 80"
unless ur a moron and play on a console...

honestly...i'm not very impressed with this cod. the single player story isn't nearly as engaging as the cod4 one. the storytelling in cod4 was top notch but in WaW it seems more of an afterthought. they spent too much time trying to create backstory in the cutscenes that you end up forgetting 10 seconds later because you're paying more attention to the pretty graphics than actually absorbing whats going on.
it's also hard to connect to the sense that you're actually partaking in a battle; enemies and allies will often stand 2 inches apart with one picking daisies and the other making necklaces out of said flowers. the scripted events are horrible; i understand that cod has traditionally used a lot of scripted events but it's rediculous at how poorly they are integrated into this game. in cod4 the scripted events were flawless, completely seemless. in WaW you'll find yourself trying to advance only to be stopped by some sort of invisible wall while you wait for your allies to sit and chat for a bit. this totally ruins the experience and is a harsh reminder that you're doing nothing more than controlling a fictional person from point a to point b just to trigger some fancy pancy cut scene.
the multiplayer is also a joke. the maps are horrible and the guns are shit. honestly, what the hell were they thinking in including a billion bolt action rifles that function identically. oh, and the SMGs and LMGs are also pretty much the same across the board too. i honestly have yet to find a single gun that's any different than another gun in its class other than slightly different capacities in their ammo clips. on the maps; out of the 13-15 maps that they included only about 3 are even remotely decent. the tank maps are bad simply because they have tanks (they distract too much from the core gameplay) and most of the others feel like all they did was take a big square and litter a bunch of random ruined buildings and debris here and there. the maps have absolutely no flow at all. they may as well just have made a single giant box and then configured a series of concrete walls in various fashions to create a 20+ map pack.
this game will be lucky to see even a quarter of the gameplay time that cod4 did from me.

I wish Infinity Ward had done this one instead of Treyarch.
And yea, MP is not so hot. The implementation of the guns, even WW2 era ones, could have been done a lot better.
I still find the SP enjoyable enough, but I can't see how IGN gave this game a 92%.
I'd give it about 7/10. I feel like playing CoD4 again.

So the single-player campaign is longer than CoD4 then...

I'm finding MP a lot more enjoyable now that I can aim with the sticks (yea console I know). I had to quit a game and didn't realize I was the host when I did. People were not happy based on the comments I heard...

Looks like they left out record for doing demos, unless they replaced it with something else.

Oh and the screenshot numbering is fucked up. If you take some screenshots and quit the game, the next time it starts numbering back at 000.
