There were a whole host of stability improvements with Lightroom 2. The file browser has been greatly improved and it's a lot easier to access photos off of shared or network drives. There's a new localized edit tool and an automasking tool. I think some improvements over how RAW files are handled and a few other things. I downloaded a Flickr upload plugin for Lightroom 2 which is pretty nifty.

I'm not sure if it was entirely worth the $100 for the upgrade, it seems as if it was more general improvements on the software rather than a whole host of new features. Feels a bit like it should have been Lightroom 1.5. I should be getting Aperture 2 from work soon, so I'm interested in trying that out and see how it compares.

is lightroom a stand alone program or an add on for photoshop?

And is there a free utility to try HDR that anyone here has used?

Lightroom is a stand alone software which costs $300.

I don't remember if its free or a trial version, but I used to mess around with Photomatix. Here, try it out;

Thanks man. Recently, I've been using Nikon's Capture NX to convert RAW files. And I must admit, its pretty good. The colour it produces are just amazing.

Here is a shot of my nephew I took...it was a bit grainy with low light and I was fucking with the settings, so I made it BW.
