Might be a bit harsh to cut the tail now, but I'd follow the vet's recommendation. Everything we've read about boxers, which was a lot before we got ours, was that the docking of the tail was to protect it from bashing it into things and hurting itself. I don't know if they are just different than other dogs, but obviously there are similar dogs with similar style tails that are never docked. However as you pointed out also, I've never seen a non-docked full bred boxer. We aren't a fan of the cropping of the ears, so as you can see we left hers alone.
They are great family dogs; ours loves everyone. Make sure you socialize it with many different people and pets. Obviously they are way easier to handle if you train them from the beginning too. She is a big baby and we are definitely glad we chose a boxer. Pretty much anything you read about them online or in books is exactly the way they are; at least she has been so far.

I'm starting my dog hunt now. In the meantime, our condo apartment has a very cool leopard gecko.

Just got a medium sized dog. We went to the Humane Society, saw him, and decided we had to meet him. His name is Charlie, he's 2 and a mutt (Schipperke, beagle, and ?). He was surrendered by a woman who went into her own shelter, and early reports were that the dog did not respond well to men. He was fine with us, so on Monday we went and got him!
He's a bit tubby. We're working on that already. Charlie is the one not needing a haircut.

Damn, he's tubby. But I'm glad he found a good home.

I'm glad you went to the shelter, Bilirubin. Usually if a dog shows any hint of aggression, it's dying time, so I'm sure you saved that little guy's life.
