Hmm, not a bad list. Although your number 1 pick is just another piece of the o'dium puzzle. You would be a FF7 fan...

The combat controls in this game seem more suited towards slow, plodding movements where you don't have several zombies around you at once.

Which is why they worked in RE4, because there was only ever 2 or 3 at any one time attacking you.

Here, you can have upwards of 15-20, and a pistol with limited ammo just doesn't help... But thats one of the reasons why the demo is a load of old wank. It threw you in the deep end into two sections with shit loads of enemies and no ammo. Those two sections in the demo, for me, were the two worst parts of the game. Once you get past the tribal stuff, it suddenly takes a sharp turn into classic Resident Evil land, and it got a shit ton better.

But man those first few chapters were the suck...

Forget KZ2...these seem like worthless controls.

Can I sell these treasures I find right away? or do I need to save them for something?

Never played a RE game before.

Sell them. There is no combination trick like in RE4.

Sorry for the necromancing, but I'm just now in the process of playing through this thing (on PC).

Didn't expect too much, after hearing all the bitching about the awkward controls and retarded inventory system.
But I must say I'm having a blast with it.
The awkwardness of having to manage the inventory realtime, and not being able to move when attacking only adds an element of scary exposure that I kind of like in this type of game.
It's not done as well as in, for instance, Dead Space, but I feel the gameplay is effective nonetheless.
It's about as linear as a game can be, but thusfar the slight variations in gameplay and satisfactory killing of zombies have got me hooked.

It's also quite the looker, one of the prettiest games I've played, running well at max settings on my aging pc.
Although everything looks a bit too green.

Also, your AI companion, Sheva, can be a bit of a cunt.
Please don't keep standing in my line of fire, or hogging ammo I desperately need.

Yeah, this game is pretty great. I just finished playing through it and enjoyed it a lot.

Besides atmosphere, I thought the game was much more fun than RE4 (which I felt was a bit monotonous). RE5 is a bit monotonous too, but the way the zombies attack (more of a tendency to surround you and like o'dium said--there are a lot more zombies attacking you at once) keeps it fresh. Playing with a friend also makes things much more interesting (and tense because you have to keep watching your partner's back).

I liked the save system. I did like the novelty aspect of the typewriters in the old games, but I felt that it made me too paranoid and I was saving too much--RE5 took care of all that for me. Also, the menu system is a lot better than RE4. I hated having to keep going into the menus and submenus to do anything. I like being able to switch weapons on the fly.

Yeah, except that I now 'discovered' you can exploit it by saving and restarting a level over and over again, picking up loot indefinitely.
Being a bit anal and OCD, I found myself doing this until I maxed out all my weapons.
They really should have thought that through better.

I never played previous RE games, btw, but I kind of like the interface.
And I'm getting used to the inventory system; Just assign the 9 slots to your numpad and you're good to go.
I dislike how you have to make unnecessary clicks throught the menus, though.
"I have loaded the next menu section"...ok, so just show the next menu section then, without me having to click "OK" to show it?
Minor gripe.

Again I have to say I'm very impressed with Capcom's proprietary engine.
Really manages to pull off awesome, high quality renderings at high frame rates.
Makes me wish they'd license it to other companies, just to see what they would do with it, but I understand how they want to keep this golden goose to themselves.

RE5 for PC is a great game. It runs amazingly at high detail on my laptop, which slows down playing L4D or Crysis. Just goes to show how little game makers spend these days on optimizing games because they think people will just buy new hardware soon enough.

Disappointments in RE5 here and there, but the biggest one was when I beat it in Professional mode, I got nothing for it. :/ There's also no reason to use any guns other than the Hydra, MP5, S&W, and grenade launcher with flash. Getting through Professional was pretty relatively reasy(compared for RE4, where I died 110 times before finishing it) with that loadout. If you have magnum with unlimited ammo, give it to Sheva, and give her no other weapons. Otherwise your aimbot will only use the Magnum for bosses.

BTW I can't imagine playing RE5 without a controller on the PC- it must be awful.

Are you serious?
Unlike Dead Space, which just *demanded* to be played with a (xbox360) controller, RE5 plays so much better with keyb+mouse.
Seriously, the only games you need a controller for are racers and platformers.

Since I played RE5, I've been playing all my games with a controller. It's much more fun to be able to sit back and relax on your couch with your laptop hooked up to a sound system than scrunch in a chair with a mouse and keyboard.

Upgrade the base handgun for it's critical headshots on your first playthrough. You won't be able to fully upgrade more than 2 weapons on your first playthrough. After you get infinite magnum ammo, there's no real reason to use other guns on Adv/professional. Just give the mag to sheva and you'll be fine.

I should try and replay it with some different guns some time just for fun, never used draganov, AK-47, the other AR, didn't use any pistols except base, no bolt-action rifle...

Just finished the first DLC episode last night (I think its called Lost in Nightmares). It was pretty good, though a bit short.

It had a good amount of tension, but its not as frantic as RE5 main campaign. It felt very old school Resident Evil. I'm going to try the other DLC sometime soon.

Anyone else play this?

theres a code to get an ever more oldskool RE feel to that DLC; it forces static camera's and such;
When you start the level investigate the door three times then on the fourth a ? will appear press x again and you will have the original gameplay.
