he knew he was gonna ambush billy with this soon as the on-air light came on

and he did proving it

hence the planned attack comment
Here is how I see it. In the interview BBT was never asked about his acting or directorial career. He was asked about his musical influences, and when his band was put together, both of which he refused to answer. Mention was made of his acting and directorial career in the introduction. Big whoop--he overreacted to a perceived slight. Jian obviously didn't think what he said during the startup violated any preinterview agreement--if one was actually made, and if Jian was in on it. Nothing that happened there rises to an attack--and if you stopped being such a fanboy for a second you might see that.

The central issue that the "agreement" was supposed to have been about was not asking questions about BBT's acting or directorial careers, thus diminishing the band, and from my watching of the interview those questions were not asked. But BBT obviously thought it extended to a mere mention of those facts in the intro. From this perspective, its a simple misunderstanding about what any preinterview "agreement" covered. And honestly, how many bands together for only two years open for Willie without the star power that BBT commands? Its fair ball IMHO, and he behaved like a little school boy.

Yes, I am Canadian, and you will note I am equally critical of the press response to this interview. They are overreacting to the same degree as BBT did in the initial interview. And BBT got off lucky--Jian usually turns his interviews to talking about himself.

And, seeing as how I really don't give a fuck about either of them, I don't know why I feel the need to argue with you about it. Other that hating to see someone jump so firmly up another's ass like you currently are. Its unseemly.

i dont mind i u dont agree just curios

if i think its un-reasonable 4 people to honer thier agreements am i being totally un-realistic?

I think the interviewer could have been being a lying or conniving bastard but I don't think that instantly means the interview was hostile. It's splitting hairs at that point.

I've expounded on this all I care to at this point though. Billy Bob is still rich, and his band will still benefit from his celebrity.

Weeell, he was a little off his game in this example, with an uncooperative interview. I'd never recover as well as he did I suspect.

He was in Moxy Fruvis! But that is essentially the book on him. You should YouTube up Shaun Majumder's piss take on Jian Ghomeshi sometime (think it was on This Hour Has 22 Minutes). Very funny.

It's really too bad plained posted so much in this thread...I literally skipped over most of the last two pages. And judging from some of your responses to him, I haven't missed anything.

plained...do us all a favor and drop your stupid fucking spelling style....you aren't half as retarded as you pretend to be.

I can't believe people are actually falling on the side of Thorton here. Gomeshi barely even mentioned Thorton's "other" career - and like he said, when he did mention it he was simply giving context to the listener.

I find it funny that a lot of you think its ok for a journalist to be told what he can and cannot talk about in an interview. What the fuck is the point of being a journalist if all you're effectively acting as is the microphone for the celebrity you're interviewing?

Gomeshi is fairly big name in Canadian journalism and Thorton was completely disrespectful. He acted like a fucking child and, I don't care where/who you are, but you should treat people with respect.

Just watched a few bits of it, i'm gonna agree with Jackal and Bilirubin. Billy Bob was just being completely childish, taking offense to questions outside of his music career is goddamn crazy. And the interviewer wasn't even steering towards that per se.

plus how do u all know it was him taking offence?

maybe there are other reason the world and some lama interviewer arnt needed to know.

they should have just done thier jobs profesionally , did what they were told, and repect an oaskar winner

to purposely lie and ambush him was inexcusable and way other the overly aggressive line

he just didnt do his job

at the beguining intro he should have had his homework done, telling the audience about the boxmasters carrer and works theyve done, instead he said whatever the fuc he wanted about his choice of subject(the one he wasnt to mention for reasons none of his bisiness) and he expects billy just to go along , thats why i say no, he didnt expect billy to go along, he expected billy to weird out because he knew there would be some effect upon lying so bold face to them and then going into "is something wrong billy?"

he had no clue about thier carrer and works and dint seem to care .and he asks these dumbass questions right after pissing him off on-purpose ,very very unprofessional so-called jounalism.

jus so much wrong its loco's

I really enjoy BBT's films, Bad Santa made me laugh harder than any movie I've seen in years, but he comes off as a bit of a nut in this clip. Storm in a teacup if you ask me, but whatever.

Odd Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon thing here, an ex-gf of mine used to date the guitarist for the Boxmasters. Small world.
