bad points are the touch, nowhere near the iphone because it uses film layer tech. it will lock up often and you'll lose all your settings etc so get a backup tool from xdadevs.

the internet browser is painful after you've used the iphone, i'd stick to using Win6.1 IE and forget opera.

xeros, grow up.
Oh dear, if it locks up often I will definitely have to get proper backup. That could well be the main reason they discontinued it so fast. If it gives me problems, I'll just go back to my HTC artemis.

anyway, back to the os.

a few people at work have done theirs, which are company owned btw. talking to someone from apple today he hinted that apple can't do anything about the leak and can't brick them in a later update.
the phones that have been done in the UK are all getting SMS from o2 saying MMS is now ready to go.

Tidy. I can't wait to get most of the standard mobile stuff back :D

The landscape keyboard for texts will be a godsend too.

FYI, Word at AT&T right now is launch day, they are taking off MMS block.

Yeah, i work for AT&T corp now >_>

Anyways. I have MMS on my 3.0 phone currently. Its spotty, and i have to do some sim swap trickery, but its there and it DOES work in spurts. When they take off the MMS opt out, Everyone should be golden that has the correct carrier files on their phone.

It "MIGHT" be later when AT&T rolls out the proper files, but i doubt it. They are getting alot of heat from the WWDC crowd about being "the only" carrier thats blocking MMS that has the iphone.

If you havent flashed to 3.0, Do so. Its way fucking faster it seems.

Oh and btw.

Nice.

Turns out I'm available for a minor discount if I renew my contract. I can get a 16gb 3GS for $399. I'd have to wait until June 2010 if I wanted to full discount ($199)...

no fucking way is the S model worth $400 more if you already have a 3G.

I think you're right. Although it would really depend on how much faster it really is. Does it have any other updates besides the faster network?

It has a faster CPU, the network upgrades are only delivered by a slicker OS...

imo, even if apps loaded in half the time it wouldn't be worth the price of a ps3 to save yourself a few seconds.

And I can upgrade my 3G to the slicker OS, what, tomorrow? So basically I'd just be getting a faster CPU and 8 more gb...

No, But its worth 200. And to SOME its worth 400.

Seen the G1 app that uses the compass? Apps are coming, itll be worth it in the long run.

At the risk of looking like I'm hijacking this thread, I'm just giving an update to doombrains post. I'm loving this new HTC Diamond. I didn't at first and you're right, the touch screen was awful and it does get pretty warm at the bottom. Haven't used the browser much but it seems ok. However!, the xda developers forum has some very clever members there and with their help, I've now transformed this phone. I've tweaked it a lot with various cab files and advanced config apps. This is what I've done:

Screen sensitivity - way better now, used a custom made cab file. Haven't tried the iphone so no idea how sensitive that is by comparison, but I've got this to a pretty sensitive touch now. Stylus still needs a fair bit of pressure, but touchflow 3D with the finger is great.
Screen orientation - an app called 'change screen' works a treat and now it'll change any app to landscape automatically and immediately when I rotate the phone using the gyro sensor, or I can toggle it off.
GPS with tomtom 6 (I prefer 6 to 7, speed camera warning alarm is louder on 6) & copilot - perfect, unbelievably fast fix with the built in gps receiver in about 20 seconds. Used to be over 2 minutes on my htc artemis. HTC supplied a hotfix which may have helped that. There are lots of people having problems with gps fixes so I got lucky I guess.
Installed Core player 1.2.5 - very smooth flawless video. Excellent. Audio was a bit out of sync but I played around with numbers in the manual A/V offset +/- and now it's perfectly synced. Windows media player on the phone is complete shit and made videos choppy, so core player has taken over. It's got loads and loads of settings, great video player.
Installed Youtube app - just amazing.
I've got the phone in a nice silicon case, and that goes into a leather belt case. Not risking scratches on this one. Too many on my other.
The only tweak I have left to make is to increase the volume for music, sat nav, etc, it just doesn't go loud enough, not as loud as my other phone, but I believe there's a fix for it.

I sent my other phone to be serviced, for free, on the very last day of my 2 year warranty, lol. It kept rebooting itself during calls. That's my news, and now.. back to the iphone. :D

The sensitivity deal, is a totally different beast. I have a Fuze (Touch pro) as well as my iphone. And to be totally honest, I prefer the iphones. Even with custom firmware, and tweeking, the FEEL is just so much more natural on the iphone. Safari beats operas ass sideways. Tho i do REALLY wish skyfire was available for the iphone because no flash sucks dick :(
xer0s wrote:

Ram = No jailbreak, duh
Voice COMMAND. Unless someone rips apples app, and does some voodoo magic, its not the same, fuck off with that.

Compass, Isnt a jailbreak thing. Just fyi, its more hardware than it is just software.

Auto focus, Havent seen anything jailbrake about that, at all, ever.

Video Record. Ok you can have that one, Even if the camera is donkey shit.

ITs 100 dollars better, Like it or not. You're just pissed you upgraded to a 3g and are stuck in a 2 year and cant upgrade to the new one for 199.99 or Just hate the iphone. Just like most people who keep spouting "JAILBREAK DUHHH".

Hell my 3g was jailbroken for a while. It was fucking pointless. Winterboards a laggy POS, and beyond that, theres legit apps and shit for everything. Tethering? MMS? Neat, install new carrier settings and you get it for free without jailbreaking. Beyond that, bleh.

And IMO, id rather jailbreak a new one. That faster CPU and more RAM would make winterboard usable.
