I wouldn't vote for her because i agree with them only partially on some issues and not at all on others, whilst D66 manages to have a lot of standpoints I fully agree with.

We don't have a Palin equivalent thank fuck, though it can be argued Wilders with his rabid anti-muslim tirades is tickling the underdeveloped political muscle of the target group “angry stupid white people” in the same way Palin did / does.

I think Halsema has done pretty well for Groenlinks over the years. Along with Pechtold she is one of the stronger politicians we have imo, keeping aside i do not share much of her views. But solid debating overall and at least some passion. Not like say a Agnes Kant who i can't stand, and indeed not at all like Palin, thank god.

that's interesting because occasionally i wonder if a union between britain and canada wouldn't be a good idea. we've got a huge economy but 61m people crammed on to an island, canada has 30m people and a fuckton of empty space. same language (apart from the quebecois), same head of state, same political traditions, plus canada's one of the few countries we don't actually hate

TBH it wouldn't work.

Canadians and Brits have alot of similarities but your end of the pond probably wouldn't understand being rabid about hockey as people on our end wouldn't embrace footy as you do. And because of this - turning now to the similarities - Brits and Canadians would end up getting shitfaced and brawling in the street arguing which is better. To top it off, some Quebecois fagg0t will bitch that neither is speaking french...and 'e goddamned 'ates 'aving to speak h'english...so he'd probably join the brawl. It'd get ugly and people might get arrested as well as their shirts ripped.

And forget about "all that space" in Canada. I see no reason to trash the country's natural beauty to stick in some more urine-scented pubs. Not to mention that a big chunk of it really is a frozen wasteland and not really somewhere you'd want to live 365 days a year.

They're cracking down both cannabis distribution and prostitution as well. Not that it makes it a worse place to live, but the image that many people have of the Netherlands being a valhalla for stoners is quickly turning into a facade.

NL is awesome. I've noticed that Dutchees smoke as much weed as other places, not more.

The cracking down on cannabis doesn't surprise me that much, anymore...considering what the Danish government did to Christiania. Denmark lost part of its soul when the stormtroopers went in and changed everything. The NL could also lose part of what makes it special...if the nutters have their way.

Spain is awesome and Barcelona/Madrid are where you'd want to check out. But you'd better learn Spanish quickly.

True, language is a big issue in Spain; most Spaniards don't learn "el lenguaje barbaro" (barbaric language), i.e. English. I was too young to truly appreciate Spain while I was there (ages 7-12) but it really is a marvelous country .. if you can get past the bullfighting and the launching donkeys off church steeples.

i have had to deal with several spanish countries during my time here, and if theres one thing they all have in common its lousy workethic. their nonchalance can be infuriating.
it might be a great place to live but if you have to work there and youre on of those people that want to get things done.. youll hate it

Australia is incredibly laid back in terms of work ethic as well. I work for a small to medium size multinational and the Sydney office deals with the entire Asia Pacific region.

When I first started, they only had me working with our Australian and Kiwi clients to ease me in. Deadlines don't really mean anything ("No worries, just get the release to us when it's finished"), they don't fuss about low priority bugs and are an all around pleasure to deal with.

I'm currently working one step above that, with a client in Hong Kong. They're just so much more anal about every minuscule detail. If you're going to miss a deadline, they want to know in advance so they can plan around it. They like to be constantly kept up to date on the status of things.

Yet another step above that is the horror stories I hear from our technical manager in dealing with Japanese clients O_O
