Bin Laden is dead
Re: Bin Laden is dead
Wonder what kind of effect this will have on the relations of Pakistan with well, everyone else. Seems pretty inconceivable that he'd be able to hide successfully right under the noses of their military machine for so long without a bunch of people being in on it. Either that or they're completely incompetent.
Not a very comforting thought that they're a nuclear power in any case...

that picture was reason one for my apprehensiveness towards all this. The closest I've ever gotten to photoshop was mspaint and I could tell it was fake.
Re: Bin Laden is dead
One question I have: If this place was a compound and looked like a compound (from the pictures I've seen, indeed it does), and it has a huge wall with barb wire at the top, and dudes patrolling with machine guns.....why didn't anyone notice? Or care to ask? Did the people in that neighborhood just know not to ask, or were they told to keep quiet? Seems strange that no one would have been suspicious. Especially if he had been living there for years, you'd think we would have found this sooner...

I am so waiting for Republicans and war-mongering idiots to either take credit for this or in some fucked up way bash Obama with it.

On the morning of April 29, Obama approved the mission before leaving Washington to inspect tornado damage in Alabama. A small contingent of the navy's elite SEAL Team Six, a top military counterterrorism unit, was approved to carry out the mission.

I seen the original video of when he doesn't kick the door in, I gotta admit, that gif is done really well, it looks really real.
Re: Bin Laden is dead
**My guess is not much will change. In public, America will continue praising Pakistan for supporting the so called war on terror. Pakistan will continue putting on the facade of support, whilst privately turning a blind eye [or at best making a token level of noise internally] towards fundamentalist sympathisers within the army and ISI. America will be frustrated by this, but unable to take any major steps for fear of causing a breakdown in the status quo. They've already intimidated and/or bribed Zardari into not making a big deal about the whole "not respecting the sovereignty of another nation" angle. As long as the money keeps pouring in, you've got a "strong ally".Ryoki wrote:Wonder what kind of effect this will have on the relations of Pakistan with well, everyone else.
I'd have thought it blatantly obvious that fundamentalist sympathisers within the ISI were complicit in, at the very least, deflecting attention if not outright assisting Osama in hiding.Ryoki wrote:Seems pretty inconceivable that he'd be able to hide successfully right under the noses of their military machine for so long without a bunch of people being in on it.
ISI was instrumental in assisting the mujahideen against the Soviets in Afghanistan during the 80s. All the CIA money and help that went to Afghanistan went through the ISI. In the 90s they actively supported the Taliban. Check out Matt Waldman's report from last year which suggests that the ISI is still mucking around with this stuff. Its conclusion is disputed but I think the people disputing it fall into one of two camps: incredibly naive or deliberately disingenuous.
The mansion was allegedly constructed in 2005 for the sole purpose of hiding this guy. You don't do something like this 60 kms from the capital without eyebrows being raised.
edit: ** I should clarify that this is assuming America has a continued interest in Afghanistan and the Pakistani tribal areas to further work on Al-Qaeda. If they're "done" and plan on pulling out soon, they'll probably reduce aid and relations will deteriorate.

so i wonder what the next big hit will be to affirm that this blow did not end terrorism as we know it.
I think gonnafistya is correct, and also a cunt.

I believe humans as a whole won't survive long-term if they keep tearing at each other. We shouldn't be trying to wipe out the people in countries like Pakistan and Iran. We should be trying to absorb them in Borg-like fashion. There's no need to kill these people. All we really need to do is send their young people Rock-in-Roll music, beer, loose women, action movies, video games, mobile communication devices (aka iphones) and lots and lots of weed. Drop all that shit in the school yards and within a few years...BAM...America II, III, IV, etc.
Right, wrong or indifferent, I believe humanity moves together into the future, or we die out before we have the techonology to permanently leave this rock.
Thick, solid and tight in all the right places.

Re: Bin Laden is dead
bin laden was an analogue man in a digital age
remember when bush said "you're for us or against us"? the protesters in egypt and tunisia rejected both bin laden's fantasy caliphate AND a US-backed dictator, preferring door #3: democracy
alex jones is - as usual - talking out of his ass. if the white house had osama on ice, and was waiting for an opportune time to play the bin laden card, they fucking played it badly: AFTER the middle east uprisings, when it was made clear to both the pentagon and jihadi species of crazy that the real game was being played elsewhere, on the streets of cairo, tunis, bahrain etc
bin laden's death mean's very little, given how the world (but not his dwindling band of followers or those retards in washington) has moved on since 9/11
