My CPU is aces so I have no worries about that...I am not sure I can spend £200 on a card given the amount of time I actually use my PC for now. I have really gone off the boil on gaming in general but I know it will pick up a little in the winter (as it always does for me)

I think I will end up being a real casual gamer so the lazy factor of a console will be the future for me. I have a stack of games I have not played or not finished.

Also my PC gaming area is a little shody to be fair...hence not spending much time on the machine in general

I have the exact same problem going. I would prefer to play this game on PC, but it would require me to invest in a major PC upgrade and I'm not ready to do just that because I barely play PC games anymore. Besides this, I like the coziness of sitting in the living room on the couch behind my TV instead of two floors up in the attic all by myself.

I think I'll initially buy the game for XBox 360 and maybe later on buy it again for PC (by which time it'll probably be available for cheap in some super Steam deal or something)

Sadly, I don't expect a MP community evolving like with Q3A with any other game ever again.

phantasmagoria wrote:I dunno, it depends how much content is hidden behind these sewers. If it's a whole new unrelated and decent story arc that's disconnected to the main plot then it could make sense, basically like traditional missions packs (think reckoning quake2 or blue shift for hl etc) but with portals to them ready built into the initial game then that's a decent idea and it makes sense. Say you buy an addon pack for £15 that's got five to ten hours gameplay behind it, it makes sense that it doesn't get included when you sell the first game.

If, however, it's just a small dungeon with a new gun or some shit in that you pay a couple of quid for then that's total bullshit. Fuck that noise.
Call me old fashioned, but if they've spent development time on a segment of the game prior to release, regardless of whether it is critical to the main story, then it should be included with the final thing when you buy it at retail. Consumers are effectively spending money on a game, with content lost unless you pay more for it. DX:HR is doing the same thing for that Augmented Edition with an entire mission to find Tong lost unless you buy it. Gash. RAGE's second-hand thing isn't as shit as Assassins Creed 2's completely missing chapters from the actual main game, but it's still bullshit imo.

It's not like old school expansion packs, because they're developed after the actual game ships and were usually far more significant than a sewer with extra stuff to shoot. Usually a hell of a lot more content than today's DLC too.

Shit like this leaves me with absolutely no qualms in hitting up usenet/torrents to get the "extra" content that should have been included with the retail/second-hand version anyway.
I've not done any reading into these sewers so I'm not 100% up to speed but what I was talking about was them basically building backdoors in the gameworld that lead to possible content that's yet to be created? hoping that the game is well received then they have ready built portals in the world that can accommodate additional content. If they've already produced a significant amount of data but they're holding it back and making it available to buy separately to make more money then indeed: Total gash.

His grammar in that sentence was atrocious, but I agree with what he said. Q3A's community in the first few years of it's release was great. I still remember when RA3 was released and it took a full day to download it on my 56k modem... and watching players like Azer go from filthy little noobs to amazing players after every game. Good times.

it wasn't the grammar i was drawing attention to, more the idea that the last time a decent community built up around a game was 10 years ago

Are we a decent community? The Q3W community is now the equivalent of chavs hanging out on a street corner and throwing bottles at people who walk by.

Of course my perception is a bit colored from hanging out here for the past 10 years.
But are there active boards/communities for games like the original unreal tournament, half-life, etc.?

I still see a lot of activity directly related to Q3A right here; people mapping/developing for it, and people playing on quake live, of course.
Don't really see that with ut and hl after 10 years.

I also doubt COD27 or Crysis7 will have the same longevity.
