I'm not talking about the managers, although when you think about it the managers job is to have a good team and if that means paying some guy 20 million cause another team WILL pay it to have that player then it's your job to make sure you get that player. It's kinda like art, if people are willing to pay that ammount to have that piece of art what makes it any different than having a star player. His skill in the sport, which is due to the fact that player sacrifices basicly a normal life to acheive that level of expertice is able to get paid that much. If they want to control the ammount they get paid then why is it people are offering to pay them crazy ammounts? It's because they want to.
Besides, even if they DID try to make a salary cap players would still probably make deals on the side that'd equal out to the same thing anyway.
The pay side of things is a tough argument to argue but like I said early I wasn't talking about pay I was talking about the ammount of work athletes do to become pro athletes. Some people here seem to think it's fucking easy when I know it's not. Physical training combined with technical training and performing at a level above a competitive level isn't easy, I don't care what you say.
I trained every day when I raced and I biked enough miles in one summer to cross canada, come back and go back half way back. I spent litteraly 14 hour day's on the road just cycling and when I wasn't cycling I was working on my bike, at a bike shop, working out, working at my job so I could afford to race, meeting sponsors and trying to get sponsors or on the road so I could go race. It ate my life.
I didn't have time for anything else but work, I'd have time off once in awhile but beleive me those days were spent resting so I could be ready to race.
I'm not trying to brag either but I could have been pro, I raced with the pro's and I got paid to do what I did, it wasn't much but technicly that makes me pro although I concider myself an amateur, I wasn't making big money by any means, just enough to sustain my bike and get bike equipment. I even had a shot at the Canadian cycling team for the 2004 Olympics and if I had kept doing what I was doing there's a good chance I'd be there in 2008.
Either way it wasn't easy and it was a lot of sacrifice and I'm sure any athlete that's pro understands this because they've had to do it too.

Hey I wasn't the one that brought up the idea that athletes don't do shit for work and get paid millions. They may get paid too much but they DO work. As for the pay it's like I said, if someone out there is willing to pay it why would they say no?

You just proved my point. Which is ANYBODY could train to a level to have a shot at pro sports.
The problem is, they can only let so many people in. Do you really think that every talented and dedicated athelete is automatically given a spot in the pros?
Now an entire league is destroyed, and NOBODY will be able to play in it again - all because of greed.

Nobody said they don't do shit for work. But they still get payed to play a game.
The reason they're so dedicated is either because they love playing that game, or because they love the money.

Are you nuts? Anybody could? I don't fucking think so. Anybody willing to take the time to be a pro athlete sure. But the fact is not everyone has that devotion or skill. Not everyone is willing to sacrifice their life for something like this cause you only get your gains IF you make it pro and IF your good enough.
I'm not arguing the league is definitely hurt from this but honestly... I doubt it's the end of the NHL. It could be but I strongly doubt it.
It's true they can only let so many in but that number of people will always be determined by the most skilled and the best players and the best players come from working hard to be the best. Wayne Gretzky wasn't born the greatest hockey player in the world he loved the sport and trained hard at it since he first set foot on the ice, which was probably 4.

No, the number of people allowed in will always be determined by the NUMBER OF TEAMS MULTIPLIED BY THE NUMBER OF ALLOWED PLAYERS ON EACH TEAM. :icon27:

I somewhat agree, except for the few sports that require strenous training, plus the beatings the body takes in a sport such as hockey/football (both soccer and american ), lacrosse, rugby
I think it funny how most of the people who say, "athletes don't do fuckall" are the ones who've never playd any serious type of sport, not saying you're one of these types.

yeah, who wants to stay in shape and be healthy? Man people who like playing challenging sports are fucking stupid, not to mention the fact that all athletes are stupid and have no goals in life other then to play sports.

it's a game to watch, but not to play, the training, defencive zone, neutral zone and offensive zone systems they have to memorize and execute in any given situation
