Re: Higgs boson found?

Not that I know of...
But really, you were very dismissive of it in your first post.GONNAFISTYA wrote:lol
I wasn't dismissive of it. You claimed I was. You're the only person that has. And here I am yet again telling you your interpretation of my post was wrong, yet you ignore it anyways.
Talk about a sweetly retarded strawman with a shit-ton of moron thrown in the mix.

They didn't know. What they had was a mathematical equation that predicted the existence of this special particle. Sometimes the maths is wrong, so it has to be tested.losCHUNK wrote:Well if they didnt find it they wouldve kept looking, sounds like they were searching for something that they knew was already there and confirmed what they already know.
Based on the evidence provided I say the fatties correct, and you should all line up and offer an apology one by one, like those ants that went marching.
Holy shit. Here you are still arguing? Even after the entire premise of your argument has been completely destroyed (you misinterpreted what I meant) and here you are doing what your anger management counselor told you not to do. You're arguing with people who aren't arguing the topic, but instead arguing your interpretation of what they meant? Is that what's keeping you typing? For someone who went on a huge rant about how I was unable to let shit slide and must.win.every.argument you once again prove just how much you project yourself to others. I'm sure your court-appointed shrink can explain that to you.0psys wrote:But really, you were very dismissive of it in your first post.GONNAFISTYA wrote:lol

"all it does is confirm what we already know" is a pretty low-key reaction to what is pretty much among the greatest scientific discoveries of all time.
It wouldn't be so bad if you were actually a scientist of some kind, but you're just an obnoxious fat guy who makes computer games. Literally worthless in both scope and opinion as far as this subject goes.

Look at it like this: Faraday had no idea that electromagnetic induction would lead to the computer, but without his experiments based on his formulas and equations, we wouldn't be here discussing things in this forum now. There's no way of telling what this find will lead to, just like nobody knew what Faraday's results would lead to. Unless these theories are tested and confirmed, then they cannot be improved upon.

"All it does is confirm what we already know" is a pretty low-key request to level-headed people to not allow some of the sensationalist reporting make them think we can suddenly go faster than light speed.
Now, I can understand why you might misinterpret that, but is there some reason you choose to not accept that it wasn't what I meant and that you were wrong? I mean how utterly insane does someone have to be to be continually told their going down the wrong path and yet they go down it anyways? I'm fully aware that crazy people refuse to acknowledge reality and want to stay in their own fantasy world. I can relate to that. I mean who wants to go through life angry for made up reasons when they can pretend they're real? I can fully understand why a thug, with a violent criminal record and suffering from little-man syndrome, might want to argue on some stupid tangent about people's true intentions about posts they make regarding scientific discoveries. I mean, if you release your anger the way you normally would by hitting people and things, that it would be a violation of your parole/probation/court order and you'd go back to jail again....so I can see why getting angry at people on the internet for insane reasons makes perfect sense.
If only if there were some way of you not being a complete moron. Nah! What was I thinking?
The way you constantly open your rebuttals with flabbergasted exclamations of disbelief means I just can't be fucked to read them. What you've written may well have totally owned me or whatever, but I'll just never know.GONNAFISTYA wrote:

There have been naysayers to the theory, there are many alternative models of physics. Yes, if they'd have found nothing, it would've been more interesting, but that's the point of a practical experiment--to either confirm or falsify a theory. You can't knock someone for being right, it's almost like you're saying this was only valid if it turned out they were wrong and it'd been a waste of $100 billion.losCHUNK wrote:
Yea but these scientists were confident of finding the higgs long before the LHC was constructed, ive seen some of the guys working at CERN ? go on about how that even if this LHC doesnt produce the higgs that a larger one would, its nice proving yourself right but thats all these dudes done lol.
I havnt seen any skeptics refute the theory ?, Im probaly wrong about that tho and not being dismissive n all I just think the greater discovery was figuring out how to build an experiment to find it in the 1st place, knowing that there was something there to be found, the bigger surprise wouldve been if we took this long road of discovery and found fuck all ?
Its not like its gooing to advance our planet anymore either ?, its hardly increased our understanding ?, all the scientists will still be singing from the same hymn sheet ? and its not like were going to be changing plans now that we found one ?, the plan is still to find more higgsys ?
You act in insane and unpredictable ways and I'm not supposed to be taken aback by it? You really are living in your own universe.0psys wrote:The way you constantly open your rebuttals with flabbergasted exclamations of disbelief means I just can't be fucked to read them.
Even if you did read it you'd dismiss it due to the way your insane mind works. Sorry man but I can't help you with this.0psys wrote:What you've written may well have totally owned me or whatever, but I'll just never know.

And you're right, it is a "just because we can" kind of thing, but that's most of what has driven civilisation since the dawn of time. But yes, it will advance our civilisation in the long run. Nothing like this had ever been attempted before, and the planning, application and success of the experiment is a massive milestone in all of the separate technologies that converged to bring these results.
Like I say, people said the same thing about Faraday, nobody knew the potential applications of electricity, just like we don't know the potential applications of moving one step closer to a grand unified theory.
Blah blah everyone's crazy except you. *snore*GONNAFISTYA wrote:You act in insane and unpredictable ways and I'm not supposed to be taken aback by it? Yeah...like totally agreed.mrd wrote:Holy smokes guys, tone it down. Can't we all just stand in awe and appreciation of this ridiculous feat of science, regardless of whether or not its proving a previously held point or not? Fuck off, there's a 27km long tunnel under the ground with near light-speed particles being smashed to pieces. That's fucking insane. Never mind what they are trying to prove, the LHC itself is pure fucking insanity (in a good way.)
Although I have to agree with sys... to think that a finding like this won't influence our civilization in some way is somewhat naive. The fact that these dudes even pulled this off... this shit has been like 50 years in the making, from hypothesis to execution. And even if they don't actually confirm that what they've found is the Higgs boson... it surely is something equally as strange and possibly insightful.
Too many people bicker over silly shit. Look, a million years go we were flinging shit at each other from trees. Now we're smashing fucking protons together at the speed of light and detecting their remnants with god damn liquid-nitrogen cooled magnets the size of my fucking house, all underground. Shit's crazy, son!
lol ur fuckin cuckoo.0psys wrote:GFY, I think you might be right. Out of the two of us, I'd definitely pick me as the insane one based on the tone of our posts in this thread.
